Cool, they should go nicely with your lightweight CF hood.

Merry Christmas Bob and best wishes to you

Wow. You know, it's funny. I don't think I've ever gotten excited about a hinge before. And to be honest, I was excited just from the title of the thread.

Did you have to fabricate a press to stamp them?

Is there any chance of marketing any of these pieces?

Without even amortization of the tooling costs, the net cost would be $2500 per pair. With a weight savings of 2.1 pounds this equates to $1190 per pound which is not bad for sports car racing, quite economical for NASCAR and Indy cars and an out and out bargain for F1.

But as it was a great engineer, without whose generous support the Humpty Dumpty project would not have achieved the full measure of success that it has, who was the person who pointed out that the original hinges were steel, this had to be done.

Pretty cool parts that I am sure "the engineer" would approve of.

Are the pivot points Ti or are they of another base metal?

Robert,

Beautiful parts. Just curious why a seemingly simple looking part is so expensive in titanium. Is it the raw material cost or due to the low volume of parts made?

Robert what is the total weight of the car after all modifications?
Wild guess - under 1000 kg with half tank....

Assuming the design, development & production costs are similar, I suppose my question is: what is the relative difference in cost between titanium and steel sheet metal? 2x, 5x, 20x?

$1,190/lb explains one reason why professional drivers don't have any excess body fat...
