Default Nuts

Sometimes I am accused of going overboard, but original nyloc nut and steel washer used for ball joints, etc. on certain vehicles vs. Cartridge 12 point, plated aerospace lock nut and shaped titanium washer. OK, maybe a bit overboard but safety and weight count and unless one's mindset thinks weight and safety in every detail the war to achieve the minimum of the former and the maximum of the latter is lost.

Robert,

Any idea what the current weight of the car is?

Any chance of seeing some pics?

Great stuff! I love your posts.

Cheers,
Dave

Weight is down to 2260 -- and car, of course, has A/C, full leather interior, carpets, stereo, etc., etc. Last few pieces (carbon fiber fans and shrouds) should (famous last words) be ready in a month and then it will be assembled and I'll post pictures. Thereafter, a few more things such as carbon fiber induction plenums and reduced weight measures in rear of car as part of final review should remove a few more pounds.

Very nice Robert. .....so, where are you heading with this project? Been salivating over your work of art for a few years now. What will happen when you're "done"? Wanna do mine?? ;-)

The purpose of this project was to learn about certain technologies and materials and to develop new production sources and methods. As this is an ever on-going process, this project has continued over several years. Now, however, this particular project is coming to an end and I hope to have it completed by year end (unless, of course, I am distracted by more immediate business requirements). As to what will happen when the car is done, the simple answer is nothing other than we will have learned much. Finally, I am pleased to say that what we have garnered has more than paid for itself so that, even from a financial point of view, this project has been a success.

Will it ever hit the road and rack up miles?

Road, yes. Rack up miles, doubtful.

It will be a very great pleasure to do so.

P.S. Through Rennlist I have made several "internet" friends as well as people who have become personal friends such as Dr. Gagnon and Rob Lynch and, particularly during 2005 and 2006 when I was rather ill, they were very supportive which I shall never forget and shall always appreciate. So, too, though like all thinking beings, we have disagreements, if I can ever do anything for the Rennlist family, that will also be my pleasure.

Robert,
Nice to see you getting a handle on your nuts, but aren't you overlooking the engine internals which could yield more significant weight savings.

I can do you a nice set of 400g 9m pistons that would shave nearly a whole lb off the engine weight or perhaps a set of our new steel billet DLC coated rockers which would shed another 300g a set over stock Porsche items .....

Noooooo.. not you Robert! Ok, maybe a little bit, however.. it's always nice to behold the level of thought, detail, and effort you've brought forth.
