Default Latest Porsche Tyre Tests

Hello, in here

Has anyone found the results of the recent Porsche tyre tests as regards the 964? They were meant to be published at porsche.com/classic according to Christophorus, but if so, they are well buried.

Just read this months article John, I'd say you thought the days of checking the garage floor for oil leaks were gone when your sold your 964. At this rate the 964 block will be considered one of the most leak free.
Hope yours stays dry and keep up the work.

You are so right.

In fact, Rob (Mug) has had an RMS leak (fixed under warranty) on his 996 GT3 Mk 2...

Yeah, go on...tell everyone!

I think the OPC just wanted something to do to pass the time...the GT3 never used a drop of oil...

...funny how we're both still using our 964s as avatars on Rennlist!

A leak fixed is better than an un-noticed leak.

I think.

You must be the only person who has ever had an OPC find and fix something free of charge that you weren't even aware of and would never had known about had they not pointed it out...

You obviously both still miss your 964s

BTW how did the 3 go at Oulton last week Rob? That has to be one of the quietest trackdays I've been on - loads of clear track to be enjoyed .

The Bridgestone RE01r is one of the best street tires. They are almost as quick around a short track then A R Comp. To check out the best tires just go to the SCCA Solo 1 results list for the Topeka championship.

I went searching for that reference chart on the website & couldn't find any tire information anywhere. It was odd, because Porsche made such a big deal about the tire testing they did in the magazine, and I thought it was great, only to be let down by the absence of any information on the website. If anyone finds it (maybe Porsche posted it later?) please send a link here. More out of curiousity, as I still use the tire brand/type that came with my car (Michelins) but I have a cab that sees no track time so I'm not as concerned as some others might be about absoloute tire performance.

Just curious- John if you don't have a 964 why are you asking about 964 tires? Are you thinking of an early Christmas present for yourself? Something to give you a thrill on the weekends when you can take a break from your daily driver GT3?

You should have said hello!

3 was not as good as it could have been..engine didn't feel revvy which wasn't too bad as the track was damp so full throttle max revs wasn't on the cards much.

Too the car to OPC next day and they've had it since, fault shown as camshaft out of alignment with crank, so engine out and fiddling around. Getting it back later today.

Oulton is quite a track...there's a few scary corners...

Hope it goes well with the engine findings.

As we've not met before (and still not yet) it wasn't until late in the day that someone pointed you and the 3 out to me as you went out on a session. That was my fourth go at Oulton and I was suprised at how good the C2 was in those conditions. For the most part predictable breakaways and only the one tank slapper when I was a bit too keen at knickerbrook. Mind you I had guidance from the passenger seat from a local who races there, (Marcus Carniel who decided to leave his 964 race car on it's trailer as he decided it was not a good day to test out the new suspension set up). As you say it's a great circuit for some thrilling corners

Maurice, that's brilliant. Thanks.

You okay with a link to that being published in Total 911?

Yes, thank you Maurice for the link and thank you John B for starting this thread. This is the exact information I've been looking for.

All the best,

Cliff
