Default New to me 965... tranny sticking in gear help needed

I have only had the car a few weeks but it is intermitently sticking in mainly 3rd and 4th gear on deceleration. You can get it out of gear but it is in a bind. Up shifts work fine. I replaced the motor mounts for this and rattles but it only fixed the rattles. The car probably needs a clutch but I don't get how this would affect down shifts with the clutch pushed all the way in. Driving slower helps and 5th has done it a few times. Did not replace the trans mount as it looks fine. When I drive calmly(wife in the car speed) it does not do it?

A friend had a 91 turbo also and his did it too. He never fixed it. My 90 C2 never had this problem. Any ideas appreciated. Thanks

Default shifting

not sure but some have complained about hard shifting as a result of the gear lube. maybe you can find what everyone is using with good result and change it. its cheap and worth a try. also maybe a clutch bleed .

I know the LSD on the 965 is to lock up on decel.. Would this be a factor or simply what you feel is sticking? (If the clutch is not disengaging 100%)

Hi,

Assuming for the moment that the transmission shift linkage doesn't have worn bushings (you didn't say how many miles are on the car), I'd be thinking about two issues:

1) Clutch hydraulic problems: slave, master and old fluid.

2) Clutch disc hanging up on input shaft due to rust, corrosion, or a burr.

3) Damaged pressure plate: platen off center and broken straps.

4) Internal wear/damage inside transmission (such as shift forks, operating sleeves, syncro and hub teeth)

Looks like you have some detective work to do here,....

Thanks Steve,

You headed the direction I was guessing after we bled the brakes and clutch. Now the hope is we find clutch problems so the tranny doesn't have to come a part.
