So I removed the impact beam tonight. It was really easy, just 1 10MM allen head bolt on each side and it came right off.

I was doing some research on the forums last night and was looking over NineMeister Kermit build thread and how they assembled and reinstalled the rear bumper on that car.

They put together the assembly (cover + impact bar) then installed it as a unit on the car, not separately.

I'll likely used this approach for reassembly. I am also planning on adding the RS center while I have the bumper off the car.

Mines getting done this week, got the rs rear section to put on.

Do you need the heat shield? Mine looks rotten!

Bringing this thread back to life like Dr Frankenstein.

I have removed my bumper cover to add the fvd left exhaust cut out and to have the entire bumper painted. There was no need for me to remove the entire bumper beam.

The debate in this thread seems to be whether the cover is riveted to the beam. Some say it is, some say it isn't. Clearly there are rivets in the parts diagram and for sale on Pelican. In my case the cover was riveted to the beam. The cover is riveted to the support piece (32) by 5 rivets, and the support piece is riveted to the bumper beam by 4 rivets. If you pull the bumper cover off you will break the cover where the 5 rivets go through it. Not a big deal because they are close to the edge and doesn't do much damage. My cover broke since the rivets where in place. I decided, like someone else in the thread mentioned, is to drill 4 new holes in the support piece and use some type of sheet metal screws instead of rivets so that in the future I can just unscrew them.

Without some type of fasteners under the center tail light section, the bumper cover will just be held on by the screws in the wheel well and the two brackets at the bottom. That doesn't seem sufficient to me. I'm sure the rivets were installed for additional support and to stop movement or vibration.

In my case... The bumper cover was held on by the screws/bolts in each wheel well, two screws in the two middle brackets (13), and the 5 rivets under the center tail light (which may or may not be fastened based on if the bumper was removed in the past)

I drilled out the 5 rivets, but did not replace them when I re-attached the bumper cover and it is solidly in place.....

Greg, I am going to keep mine for the same reason you want it. I did see a few used covers on eBay.

This might be a long shot that you’re still active on the forum. But if you are. Would it be possible to repost the pictures. It looks like photobucket no longer hosts it or it just needs to be renewed. The process seems straight forward from what I can but but I can’t quite make out the notes. Thanks!

All pics load on my end... so I don't think a repost will do anything.

You sure it's not a daily number of views type of limitation?

This photobucket thing has been the bane of my existence while I go through older threads for DIYs etc.
Almost worse than not having them at all as you can just make out what the photos show (what you need)

That's odd. I've tried on different days, cleared my cache, logged out of acct, logged in, and I still get that watermark and blurred image. If it loads on your end do you mind resharing here for those of us that can't see it? That would be awesome!

Strange, but yes, no problem doing that tonight when I get home from the office.

I use this photobucket "fix" that works pretty well- it's a Firefox extension, but I'm sure there are equivalents for other browsers:

FYI if you are going from the US rear center bumper section to the ROW or ROW RS center section you will need to remove the plastic impact parts attached to the aluminum subframe and remove and relocate the tow hook insert.

Here you go, pics from the original post... quality is low, but hey, it was a long time ago.
The pictures looked OK on my phone, but as soon as I look at them on the PC, it is clear they are not clear at all...
