That slate grey looks real nice, those BBS split rims must be worth £1000's. It looks superb at that ride height but i couldn't live with it to Germany or 400 miles across the UK. Perhaps i'm just getting old

And CT, I never thought about the look without the AC i suppose it looks a little cleaner, and any weight i can save as its a C4 is always a bonus.

I bought the Bentley technical guide and the Adrian Streathers book, its kind of in between a manual and and enthusiasts book hence the name i suppose But I can't find info on some basic tasks like removing fog switch or engine cover etc, so I will have to start another thread soon.

Beautiful and congrats. Love the immaculate Golf restoration, so your 964 definitely found a great home! Glad your wife is supportive of your hobby and fascination with all things automotive.

Thanks, I am real lucky as she was out cleaning the luggage compartment, (boot/bonnet not sure yet) and the interior with me too. She kind of draws a line at tooth brushes to clean air vents though

Started to get through the list of preventative things i like to look at, and thought i would tag them to this thread instead of starting new ones.

Pulled the caps off the distributors yesterday and noticed excessive wear so thought i would change and check out the belt while i am there. I noticed the belt had been changed recently and looked like new, but the caps and rotor arms had clearly seen better days. As i work for a Bosch distributor it wasn't as painful as it could have been...

How did it run so well and pull to the red line?

I am collecting all the pics in my photo set http://www.flickr.com/photos/emmber/sets/

Wow those contact surfaces definatly has seen better days... Nice car, hope to join you soon in the 964 ownerage. I just sold my mk1 Scirocco that I've owned and restored for 8 years, with a 180 hp 1.8T 20v it was very quick but now I'm looking to get one of my dream Porsches, a 964 C2.

Thats what i thought, real bad.

Other than a mk1 Golf the Scirocco mk1 is also a very beautiful car, i am a bit of a traditionalist with the old cars and engines, but i understand lots do that mod these days and its very successful. I bet it was very quick!

As nice as the VW's are, i wouldn't go back now i have my 964. The sound in every gear, at any speed brings a smile to my face.

Good luck with your hunt.

You might want to decrease your R&R (remove/replace) interval.

Any explanation re those electrode points extreme erosion? (Miles since last R&R?)

I am also surprised a car with full service history and up to date stamps has something like this. But most car owners know less about cars today than 20 years ago (it appears) and seem to rely on the garage providing the eyes and ears for everything (like most of us). I don't know about in the states but its all in a effort to reduce time on the ramp, so the minimal work is carried out by the garages in the UK so the customer and the garage seem to compound each other. Personally I like to work through parts myself all year instead of waiting for it to fail or for the car to fail an MOT or advisories on a Service. Last time they were changed? No record in the receipts so i assume they are 116k old

Changed the belts today,

They looked in good condition from opening the bonnet, but I thought it was best to take them off to double check (after the above situation).

Glad i did

New belts fitted

Thought i would wash the luggage carpet as it:

A: Smells of Fuel
B: Its 18 years old
C: A,B seemed like good enough reasons

10 mins with some cloths washing powder/liquid, (so nothing is too strong) and you wouldn't believe how much dirt comes from a 10 min soak. As my trunk has the classic petrol station smell i think i will leave the carpet out until i need to go on an overnight Journey

BTW Had the all clear from the insurance,

The person that restored the body on my Golf and resprayed the car is handling the repair and I am having a complete new front bumper
