Default 964 Wiper arm comparison

I just upgraded to the newer twin spring version.

Many are unaware that Porsche switched the design of the wiper arm on the 964 to a twin spring design. Here are some pictures showing the differences.

I am not sure what the advantages are other than it might hold the wiper to the glass better at higher speeds.

Easy upgrade to perform. Note: you have to order the arms and the cap that covers the nut.

I did this too and think that the two springs provide that little bit of extra force to make the blades clear the screen better. It's marginal but hey....any improvement over the stock awful wipers has got to be better.

As a footnote....I initially got Bosch wiper blades supplied with the new arms. These were very poor. Smeary. Changing to Porsche original blades was much better.

Agree with Steve on both counts.

Good idea Pete, thought mine where pretty poor, but i just use 2 coats of rain-x? seems to work so you don't need wipers if you go over 50mph.

X1 on the Rain-X - no wipers required at speed.

I use Rain-x windshield washer fluid. Same effect without having to apply it.

I found the newer wiper arms helped alot. They at least kind of wipe the window now. With the old arms it was a waste of time even turning the wipers on.

Was going to do this myself, and am trying to find the part number for the newer (2-spring) version, so I make sure and order the correct part.

Anybody have a part number(s)?

Thanks!

The late part numbers are

964-628-028-02 (1992+ - Right hand side)
964-628-028-03 (1992+ - Left hand side)

What the hell changed??? I had a '66 912 and a '74 911S, both of which had perfect ws wipers. The only way I think my '91 cab will work is to do the reversal trick, where the wiper's "rest area" is over on the passenger side. Eh?

Thats wrong too then, there are 3 arms eding 01, 02 & 03

01 is for both LHD & RHD and is straight
02 is for LDH and is bent at the end
03 is for RHS and is bent in the opposite direction to the LHD ones

Fit an 02 and a 03 and you will have very funny wipers

SWF have the best fitting standard blades
