Default To window tint or not to window tint.

Hi all,
After a recent business trip to Phoenix Az. I noticed a lot if not most 911’s 964’s 993’s ect. I saw had window tinting applied. I thought to myself it looks pretty good and very functional in this climate. I live in the upper Midwest where we have a lot of sunshine but no real heat. I do park my car outside at work a lot so a cooler cabin temperature would be beneficial to my 20 year old interior. I think it would anyway. Do any of you guys have window tinting? If not would you consider it? I did not search prior threads for this question because trends change often. All pros and cons would be appreciated.
Regards,
Steve

i personally like to clear look on small cars. big cars look good with dark tint.
did u ever think of a light blue tint on your car...i think that would compliment our dark blue exterior, while blocking the harmful uv rays

I've been meaning to tint my car...but just haven't gotten around to it yet. Your car would look good with tint. I prefer a medium darkness tint.

I would tint my windows and I will on my Carrera as soon as I get the chance....Most cars down here in Georgia have tint to them with a vast array of darkness....The maximum that you can tint here in Georgia is 20%. It is dark enough to not be able to see in the car easily but easy enough to be able to see out of your car at night. For example back when I was living in NJ I had 5% which was the darkest you could get and you could not make out the vechicle behind you at night...All you saw was the slight illumination of their head lights....(way to dark in my opinion) but it did offer the most protection....you could barely look into my car even during the daytime.

I have 20% now on most of my cars (including wife's suv) and it does make a difference inside the car during the summer months....you can actually feel the temperature difference between tinted and non tinted cars......

Plus I think it makes a car look just a bit more classy and exotic.....

Hope this helps....

In Arizona if you do not tint your car the interior will be toast in 2-3 years. The tint blocks something like 99% of the UV rays. You can get tint in various shades that will block UV light. I have my cars tinted as dark as allowed by law as it keeps the interior cooler. I also like the look.

I bought my 964 with the windows already tinted. So far, knock on wood, no tickets in the police state of Calif. I like the tint even though the car lives in my garage 95% of the time. I think my tint is a medium gray tint of about 35%. However, my tint seems to have a reflective quality on the inside. Kind of distracting at night sometimes.

My car came tinted. It sucks, frankly- the rear in particular is orangepeeling and makes it very difficult to see behind clearly.

It's gotta go, but I'm afraid that is going to be an ugly project...

I understand tinting to save the interior but I just have never liked the look of tinted windows. I even negotiated a deal on a previous car that I bought to have the owner remove the tint.

Not only saves the interior but in the summer time when you get unit really does keep the car cooler tempt wise... I also have 20% on all our vehicles never had any issues.

Don't leave any open water inside your tinted car on a very hot day. The moisture will cause the tint to delaminate, which results in bubbles forming on the windows. This could be something as simple as melting ice in a drink cup.

You don't have to get dark tint for UV protection.

Check with your state and local laws on tinting. I had a car with tinted windows when I moved from St Louis to California. I was stopped within a week of arrival for having "illegal tint". I would double check before you spend the money.

Edit: Maybe this will help - Window Tint Laws by state = http://www.tintcenter.com/laws/

I have mine tinted, but it is very light, somewhere in the range of 75 - 80 percent. I only did it to help block heat and UV. I don't recall the manufacturer off hand, but it is designed to reduce the amount of thermal transmission with a minimal visual impact. AC in the impact bumper cars is pretty weak.
