quick PDAS switch question
Absolutely loving my new-to-me 964 purchased from fellow Rennlister. Just a quick PDAS question...
What happens when I turn the PDAS switch for MORE than 10 seconds?
Obligatory first post pic...

The center and rear diffs are both locked out; it's designed to extract the car from a sticky situation like mud or snow. IIRC, once you hit 30 or 40 kph the diffs return to their normal function.

Trees are high up the Alpine Loop a few weeks ago. Perfect day.

Well, Adrian agrees with you anyway:
"The traction control program is activated in the control unit by turning the **** to the right for less than 10 seconds." (From his PDAS Technical Overview).
What do you think happens if you hold it longer?

Three Wheelin'
It activates the ejector seat, just make sure you open the sunroof first.
But seriously folks, from the sound mine makes if you hold it down longer it might be releasing the locks again...

Yes, I think it releases the locks. I'll have to test that. You can feel it when the wheels are locked on dry pavement. It starts to scrub and feel like a jeep in a tight turn.

I plan to test it out in the snow, but I'm wondering if it disables the PDAS until you restart the car. My old M3 had something similar. Might be useful.
When I turn my switch longer than ten seconds the yellow PDAS led turns off, I hear a chime, and the Mr. Incredible light comes on.
Sadly no ejection seat. Or maybe mine's worn out

Now this is really interesting - I learn something new all the time here on RL. I had to try this for myself, and, yes, when I hold the PDAS switch for longer than 10 seconds - it first set the locks as normal, then I hear the locks release and the ! light and PDAS light and beeper come on. The beeper stops after a while, but the ! and PDAS lights remain on. I tried to make the wheels spin on loose gravel, and yes, they did. Normally, I can tell that the PDAS will catch the spinning wheel. The little LED by the switch did not come on as it would normally when the PDAS would be activated. I did not try any high speed cornering, yet, with this apparent disabling of PDAS. (it was raining/snowing and dark on the way home tonight...)
Now, I am tempted to try this on the track to see if this would remove/reduce the severe understeer I experience on high speed turns.
Does anyone have knowledge of what indeed happens to the PDAS when the switch is held >10secs?

No snow yet, but the roads are wet and slippery. Just gave the "PDAS disable" a try and it sure seems off to me.
Real test will be in the snow. If it works, we might need a thread title change for future searches.
