Rear caliper confusion

Rear caliper confusion
Hi, sorry if this has been asked already, but Googling for answers has failed me. I'm looking at purchasing a 964 C2 coupe (preferably manual, but they are very rare around these parts). One candidate I'm considering is a 1992 (according to the VIN, the dealer has it listed as a 1993) slate gray/black C2 tiptronic. As I understand it, a 1992 C2 should have four piston rear calipers. The rear calipers on this 964 look like the first attachment, and I expected them to look like the second attachment. Did Porsche make that change part way through the model year, did the change not apply to the tiptronic, or is something funny going on with this car?

The most likely explanation is that this car is an early 1992 vehicle.
Check the service booklet to see that actual day of manufacture. The car may have been manufactured late 1991, even if it is labelled as a 1992 by Porsche.
The chance of the calipers actually having been 4 pistons and being replaced by 2 pistons calipers is unlikely, but then again nothing is impossible.

Where are you from, remembering Europe especially the UK had a bit of a recession on at that time, and a lot of cars went unsold.
I know of half a dozen 93 registered cars that are 91 VIN's.

If it's a true 1993 car then it will have a P in the VIN. Something at the back of my mind says that the tiptronics never received the upgraded rear calipers but I can't find anything to back that up. Hopefully someone with a stock MY92 or MY93 tiptronic might be able to chime in and tell us what they have on the back.

Yes, I'm aware of that, which is why I am specifically talking about model years, and why I asked if anyone could confirm whether the caliper change happened part way through the '92 model year (and, if so, when), or if the tiptronic missed out on the upgrade.

Yes, the change to 4 pots did indeed occur part way through the 92 MY. The chassis numbers for the changeover of the different models are shown in the parts catalogue.

My 1991 Nov 7th 1990 C4 has 4 pots on the rear. It might have been a C2 thing as well. But as mentioned there are chassis brakes for the rear calipers.
The 1990 C2 I had had the smaller brakes.

Maybe we've gotten off topic. Have you done a PPI on the car? Are you happy with the rest of the car and the rear calipers are the only issue? If yes, you can always change them to the 4-piston versions. I did on my 91 C2. Its a nice upgrade. It gives you a wider choice of brake pads.

I'm in New Zealand... which mostly limits me to imported vehicles from the UK and Japan along with the few NZ new vehicles that exist. There's also the option of importing, if the vehicle is twenty years old, meets Euro 4 emissions (2005+), or a special/rare vehicle import exemption.
Thanks to everyone who responded for their help. I haven't had a PPI done on this particular 964 yet--I'm still trying to decide if I want to live with a tiptronic, among other things. Having spoken with the dealer, it sounds like they have no service records and little idea what modifications have been done (other than the obvious exhaust modifications, pod intake filter, aftermarket wheels, and aftermarket steering wheel). They're asking for around $21k (USD), which is at the lower end of the market locally.
