just for laughs I did some running cost comparisons between a 20 year old 964 and a boring new car.

http://www.theaa.com/resources/Docum...petrol2012.pdf
my maint' and mod' costs come in at £0.62 per mile
add in £600 per year for tax/insurance = £0.18 per mile
add £0.21 per mile in petrol
= £1 per mile (for 3,333 miles per year)

Which is what the AA give for the true cost of roughly the same yearly mileage in a brand new £14k-£17k car (something like a 2 litre Volvo C30) I know which I'd rather have.

are you really sure about this? wasn't this based on like one or two car sales that you heard about?

i read on the forum here that a guy paid about US$75k for a 964 in australia ... sounds great if you are a 964 owner .... but look at the used car adverts and there are plenty of good examples that sit around on the market for $40-45k and never sell.

Yes I am pretty sure, even tough you can never be sure until you try to sell it, last year I was offered 65000 U$S to exchange it for a used Cayman S, a friend of mine who competes with a 993 recently bought a White 1990 Carrera 4 Convertible for 105K U$S
I payed for my beautiful 1993 Carrera 2 with manual box 42K U$S back in 2007, the market got crazy afterwards, the number of 964s here is very small (maybe 20 or 25) and everyone wants one...

After one year, about $22,000 including purchase price. Everything works on my car at 136k miles. So far I have fixed/replaced oil cooler lines, alternator, fan bearing, windshield rust, exhaust, shifter ****, fan blower motors, AC, motor mounts, valve adjustment, speakers, brakes, tires, plugs, fan resistors, o2 sensor, isv, coils, fuel filter, and other stuff

There should be a seperate thread for race cars. "The first rule about racing is, we don't talk about how much we spend on racing!" In my case that would involve throwing all the receipts in a draw and never looking at them again except for reference purposes. I never have and never will total them.

I have a 993, so it's similar, and in the last 5 years, I've spent what averages out to about $500/month on repairs, mods and maintenance. The car is my daily driver.

$500 a month in a new car payment wouldn't get me anything close to a great car like a 964/993, so it's definitely a good call and way less expensive than a lesser new car would be
