Default Ignition coils - Sunset Import compared to Pelican

We're going to replace our ignition coils again and I've just gotten a price quote from Sunset of $145; on Pelican they're approximately $90. They're both Bosch with the same part numbers. Does anyone have any opinions on whether they're the same part or not?

Have the folks at Sunset grab 'em off the shelf and tell you whether they're black or silver and where they're made. If memory serves the silver ones from Brazil stink.

I am getting my second set of new coild in the mail tomorrow. I know they will be silver Brazilian coils. I will post again and let people know if they are any better than what is already in the car.

So the next question should be what part of the ignition coil is failing under load and what, if any, differences exist between the OE and OEM ignition coils?

dont waste your time.

you just have two options:

1. assume that only the early silvers had problems and the issue is now rectified. many people with silvers are going strong.

2. buy the 993 coils and work out a simple plan to bolt them in.

This. When the time comes it's what I'll do for sure.

A third option is to replace the component (i.e. spark plug wires) which likely caused the first 2 sets of coils to fail and will likely do the same to the 3rd set. I think it was Einstein who said, that a sign of insanity is repeating the same experiment and expecting different results

What are the best wires to use?

Beru wires are OE and the standard. Pricey at $450+ a set. If you have time, you can re-use the connectors and replace just the wires for about $170. Installation of either set (+ assy time for the kit) can be upwards of an 8hr job with the engine in the car.

I recently replaced both coils with the silver ones, new beru wires, caps, rotors and ignition control modules. My car runs great! I am really tempted to buy some msd blaster coils. Do not buy the beru distributor caps, the are junk.

Did the ignition control modules is consumable items?
Beru caps really waste of money. The screw always loose itself.

Put in new Brazilian coils. Runs a little smoother, but still dues if i take out a coil wire out of Dist cap. Stays running if ignition module is unplugged. Wil try new coil wires when they come in mail. Next step would be to buy all new wires. Car seems to run fine, just got to solve the mystery about unplugging coil wires..
