taillight renovation
I just renovate my tail light for my Porsche C2.
Taillight was severely crack in 2 positions and was faded .

The price of new one was over 400 euros. I decided to renovate first using STICKER FILM. This product is popular now to custom the car lights from original color to black color. Of course I chose the shiny red color.
The use is easy :
1) Precut the film to leave around 2 cm clearance all around the light
2) Spray abundantly with water.
3) Remove the protective film on the sticker side. (I start my light from the left side, but I think it will be easier from the center)

4) Slowly apply the sticker using the tool to remove the air bubbles as much as possible
5) Cut with a blade the 2 cm film around the light
6) When the whole sticker is in position, pressing from center to side of light to remove the remaining bubbles. I use a airdryer to help.
7) When no more bubbles stick the edges with the airdryer and your finger
8) Remove the top protective film on the shinny part
The result is amazing. The smaller crack is nearly invisible.

I really recommend this method for faded light or the one with small cracks. I will seal it and protect for water going inside. Next week end I will do my right and left light.

Thanks!
Looks good! I have now ordered some film and will try this as well! Seems similar tothe specific film kit that is available for the 964 but much cheaper...

Welcome to the 964 forum bo11!
First post and already a DIY contribution to the forum. Very nice.
964 faded tail lights really detract for an otherwise beautiful car.
I've had vinyl tint on my car for the past couple of years and it's still looks perfect. This is a great mod.

Looking good. Nice post too!
Jack, let me know how you get on with the indicators. I used Gus's kit, I think the indicators are too red, I tried green paint but you couldn't see them in daylight.
Need a solution before MOT in Oct

Hi,
Yes i read that the film is guaranty by the manufacturer for 3 years minimum.
I dont know the price of the available kit on the market. But if some are interested i can propose you to send you the kit for 2 indicator and taillight + the tool to apply it for 30 euros.

I bought the kit and it made a huge difference on my tail lights. However, my car failed Pennsylvania inspection. They said that at least one reverse light needed to be white. I cut off the film over the reverse lights and passed inspection.

Looks like a great idea especially with the crazy prices for new lights. Can anyone who did this a while ago recommend a film supplier knowing the film has passed the test of time?
