Short shift kit for 92-94
I know, I know, lots of info here about this subject. But what I found while searching is that the bennefit is predominent with 90-91 cars. According to this thread: https://rennlist.com/forums/964-foru...tall-long.html
The short shift kit parts are the same as those found in a 92-94 car,... is this correct or did I not get thsi right?
I would like to install a short shift kit but if no benefit is to be had for my car MY I would pass.
Thanks

The outcome of installing the short shift kit, is exactly the same for all the C2 cars from 90 to 94, the only difference is that the 90-91 MY does not have the oval shift tube bushing, so you have to modify the hole to accept the oval bushing.
I see from your signature that your car is 1992, so you are good to go, just turn the bushings around.

Thanks crg53 for your response.
But based on Cupcar post #4 in the above reference thread staing:
" It piqued my interest so I did a parts list search looking for the differences in shifter parts between the 3.8 RSR and the Euro RS to see if Porsche made an even shorter shifter and found the only difference in the RSR to be the shift lever, part number 964.424.025.01 R. The "R" indicates it is a racing part. All the other parts in the system (including the fork 964.424.017.00) are the same as a '92 standard non RS car except the shift rod which is the same as '93 and later standard non RS car. Anybody know the differences here, I find it curious the RSR does not use the same system as the Euro RS or a system that is much more different that the standard car, Porsche works in strange ways sometimes!"
It leads to believe that the RS shifter and fork are the same as a 1992 model and newer for 964. Just wanted to verify that if I purchase a RS short shift kit I will not end up with the same parts as I already have in my car.
Thanks

Burning Brakes
I am quite happy with the mod, it is a slightly shorter throw but the stick being closer to the driver is of equal benefit.

You can also get it for the C4 which is the same kit without the fork

There is only 1 part # for the stock shift lever and fork, if 92 MY and on were different, they would have a different #.
Stock #: Lever 964 424 015 04
Stock #: Fork 964 424 017 00
RS short shift kit #: 964 424 015 08, this kit includes lever and fork.
These fit ALL C2 from 1990-1994

With all due respect, I think Cupcar is over thinking the issue.

This is all you need on a 4WD car from 1989-98
For a 2WD you need the RS fork as well, part number 96442401701, (for all 2WD from 1989-98)

I am interested in the option for the C4, is this all I need: 964 424 015 08? Is it a simple installation or are there modifications required?
Stephane, will you have it installed before the Warminster AutoX?

You do need to modify the undertray to clear it though as bottom of the lever is lower

I spoke with my local mechanic about fitting one of these kits to my C4. He suggested that I shouldn't proceed as in his estimation the speedier shift could result in wear to the synchromesh - is there anything in this?
