964s make better drivers?

After 5 years with my beloved 964 I am now 4 months into Cayman S ownership and have some things to share on the "better driver" issue
Do I miss driving my 964 C2 from 1993? yes, a lot, but I never really learned to drive it as it should be driven on a track ( on the street maybe yes) because when the tail went out I never got proficient enough to catch it again.
Is the Cayman S easier to drive? yesss, a lot more than the 964, I already won 3 trophies and I don´t really know the track limits of the car yet.
Driving fast in the Cayman is very different, much easier but not as satisfying as a well driven 964.

tbh Frank I am glad you are a worse driver. It means when we go to Spa in March I will have more of a chance to overtake you in your steed with the million dollar engine and mega horsepower

I really dont aspire to modern car ownership at all. My daily is an e46 3 series and the only electrickery it has that i like is the aircon and if someone asked me how to use i Drive it would melt my feeble brain i think.

Car manufacturers continually strive to make their cars safer and better. They call it progress. I call it dumbing down. There are now too many distractions in new cars and they do too much for the driver to keep it on the road. The result is that most people now forget that they are responsible for driving a car safely because they assume it will do most of the driving for them. Therefore, they're free to spend that wasted period of time between points A and B (as they see it), on the phone, on their ipod, tinkering with the sat nav and talking to the kids in the back. There's no need to focus their attention on the road in their eyes. So, I agree that modern cars make worse drivers. People seem to have forgot that they are operating something that could be very dangerous to themselves and others. Luckily, it won't be long before the car makers reach the point that a driver is no longer needed and a car will only take passengers. That will suit most people but will definitely not suit 964ers!

Great thread!
Frank and Babalouie really hit the nail on the head. In a world of digital refinement, the 964 is a touch of analogue - raw and demanding. As a rather ungifted driver, it really calls for my attention and fore planning during driving, but therein lies the charm!
