It has been six months since I sold my beloved 1993 964 C2 and bought a 2007 Cayman S with 16000 miles.
In the 6 months I did 4 track events with the Cayman, winning a couple of trophies and trying to learn the limits of a different car
The driving experience is totally different than driving a 964, this car is made for cornering fast and I never lost the tail I did however some times missed my braking point and went into the grass in some corners but no problems at all you can regain control rather easily
I also bought extended warranty just to be in the safe side regarding engine issues.

In brief,I am very happy with the Cayman, very easy to drive fast, also the only thing that I had to change was a plastic side of the floor because I missed a speed reductor and the front bottomed hard

The Cayman is a great car but I think I'd miss the excitement and sense of accomplishment of driving a 911 fast and well. Just sayn'...

Yes, I do miss my 964!! but my Cayman exoerience is really good, the ideal way would be to have both...

Hi there ,

I beth you love the handling , it's a shame Porsche did not make a classic 911 with a mid engine, ( like the 914 but with the 964 shape)
Mind you someone could cut all the rear seats area of a 964 and fit a flat 6 from a 914 .....
As a matter of interest what is the weight distribution and wheel base of the cayman S....
I am thinking building a mid engine kit car with a bike engine....

get a 997 or 991. best of both worlds

me too. 964 is tip and CS is 6 speed. 964 is DD because of commute. 6 speed just does not work in stop and go rush hour.
CS is fun otherwise. And I can put two sets of clubs and luggage for a weekend trip in it easier than in the 964.


I prefered the CS to 991 or 997.

Drove a Cayman R last fall and they do rock. Looking forward to getting my own someday!

I was out in my 964 Saturday and this guy in a Cayman S (987) went by. I could see the lust in his eyes. I always like the Cayman and it has some very nice lines, but I wouldn't give up my 964 for one.

I was at the dealership last week picking up some parts and there was a 981 Boxster S parked right next to the counter. I couldn't get over how big it was but OMG, it was very nice. No more 'entry' level Porsches now. $82k! But, if you adjust that into 1991 dollars, that is about $51K. In 1991 I believe my 964 Cab was about $72k and today would cost $135k.

My spring time plan is dropping both my current pcars and picking up a Cayman S. I'm still waiting for the local dealer to get a used one on the lot so I can test drive one.

The current owner of my 964 is spending a lot of money in it to make it perfect so I will probably buy it from him when I retire in 5 more years in the meantime I keep enjoying the big lizard
