Default rev rattle problem

Hi guys,

After some time enjoying my 964 with his new brand interior (I have to show you pics, I promise..) I started to hear a little and soft rev rattle between 3.500-4.000 rpm, accelerating and decelerating , like a "boo---boo-boo" in stead of "booooooo", the tach doesn´t make strange things, it´s only the sound. ¿What could it be)

I seems to me like an ingnition problem, but I change 5000 miles ago: rotors, rotor caps, coils, o2 sensor, distributor belt..

Thanks guys!!

Does it sound like a metallic noise like something is loose in the exhaust or does it sound like a misfire? If its a metallic noise, then check the heat shields on the exhaust. If its a misfire, then I would check the ignition and fuel system. When was the last time your ignition wires were replaced?

Exhaust heat shield rattles are very common, and they make a sound like small ball bearing rattling in a tin can. You can check the ignition wires by looking at the engine running in the dark. If you see sparks all over the place your wires are bad. 20 year old ignition wires typically need to be replaced, and are pricey!

Not sure what Boo Boo really sounds like. Is the engine misfiring?

+1 on the engine tin. Every time I've heard something scary from the engine area it has turned out to be a loose screw or broken bracket on one of the many bits of heat shield back there.

Good luck !

My slippery slope started with an strange noise which turned out to be ignition leads, more of a bi-plane sound and a serious drone which got louder under load! Sort of sounded like boo boo bloop I suppose?! Lol

I just found my rattle *** I took the bumper off today... Heatshield on the left hanging under the exhaust and the right lower bumper bracket holding up the corner was loose and deff rattling as well.

That's about to get worse as I broke the whole thing trying to fasten those rusty bits in the wheel wells.

I got so fed up with that crappy rusty hardware back there that I started using safety wire instead. Holds up good, is cheap, won't rust, and you can get it tight. Ideally we could find stainless clip nuts, but I've yet to see them after a lot of searching...
