Default 964 Annual Maintenance Cost

What do you spend a year to keep your 964 in top shape?

Maintenance (wear items and consumables): $

Additional items due to age or While I'm In There: $

Mods (discretionary spending): $

I told prospective buyers for my car (before deciding to keep it) that they should plan to spend a minimum of $1000 a year.

Somehere about 2700 Eu. That includes the maintenance and age / while you're there.
Not included are petrol, insurance and road tax.

I keep a very accurate tracking of the spending. I suppose you can get a much lower figure by doing a lot yourself (or not being very accurate...).

Good thread Mike!

I've been lucky and able to keep Maintenance to a minimum. Oil Changes, oil pressure sending unit, valve adjustments, Tires, belts, etc. I've done most this work myself, but the cost of parts adds up.

This year I broke the budget and spent about $3.5k on Mods: bolt in roll bar, new suspension (considering the shape of the OEM dampers that should be classified as maintenance, but I went all out and upgraded to adjustables). I'll try to go through my records and post better numbers.

I have had my 964 for 15 years and have spent an average of $1300 a year on maintenance and repairs. This includes everything except tires and batteries.

I've only had mine for about 6 months but I've averaged.... $20. Not including gas. I've yet to buy anything big... but those leaks are there... waiting for me...

When I bought my car in November last year I thought it would be interesting to slowly work my way through the pile of documentation that came with the car, what I found is condensed and listed below...

Total spend inc VAT: £48,847 (excluding tax, insurance, fuel etc)

Total parts spend exc VAT: £25,261

Total labour spend exc VAT: £18,475

Average spend / year: £2035

Most expensive year: £7,617 (2009, almost entirely engine rebuild)

Cheapest year: £503 (1991, exc 1989 and 1990 at zero spend)

Front tyres replaced: 9

Rear tyres replaced: 8

Front brake pads replaced: 10

Rear brake pads replaced: 8

Front discs replaced: 4

Rear discs replaced: 2

Had the car 3 years, spent just shy of £10k on maintenance and mods.
Notible items of cost for me are: re-spray, bilstein suspension hd shocks and eibach springs, clutch and flywheel plus mpl slave. Rebuilt leaky steering rack, new alarm system, rs engine mounts, g pipe, cat by-pass and various electrical bits n bobs.

This year I'm planning to spend less, only maintenance....Need to stop looking at bbs lm replicas and those coloured speedo dials.

Steve, that's a pretty cool tally. Can you tell us what you have on the clock so far?

Over the past two years of ownership I have spent well over 5K on neglected maintenance. Oil leaks, plug wires, tune-up related ect... I did all the work myself so I know I saved a bundle not taking it to a shop thanks to Rennlist and PP. Not to mention the cosmetic and making things right cash spent. All in all would I do it again...you bet.

The car has 147,000 miles Steve.

The notes I posted above are very condensed, I have a record of every part that has been replaced during the lifetime. Compiling the data took a while but now it's done I can quickly check at what point in time a part was changed or a service made.

By the way, the car is not modified so the spend over the years was all maintenance and repair costs. I plan to continue the record keeping and I have probably spent £1000 in the first 6 months of ownership, I am planning on a doing all necessary works except the annual service (or anything that I do not have the tools or skills for) myself.

And finally and most importantly, after dabbling with various sports cars, I'm really enjoying this one and it will be a keeper.

Steve
