My Car is Ruined
Unfortunately, I was T-Boned at a stop sign by a Large, Red, Chevy, Suburban.
My car had no body work and has not been repainted (had the car for ten years). I am getting a new door from Germany and they do not want to put a new fender on the car.
It has minor damage, but the crease is at the junction between the door and fender. Any suggestions....Is anybody going to be able to match the color? Anybody on the forum have a door replaced?
It happened two weeks ago, so my blood pressure has went down a bit....I am pretty disgusted by the whole situation. I was stopped and all I saw was something big and red. Then, I was seeing red.

Sorry to hear. Make sure the work is being done by a very reputable shop. Usually the insurance adjuster makes the call on the work to be done or covered. I cant see the fender so I cant say what I would do. Talk to the body shop and find exactly what procedure they are going about. Any good body shop will paint the needed panels and blend the paint onto adjasent panels and of course clear coat all of the adjasent panels. If they just paint the relaced and repaired panels without blending you will definetly see a color mismatch. Actually, better yet have them paint and clear coat the rear quarter panel . Body shops some times get into the projects and find more repairs needed or worse conditions and submit a form to the insurance company. Talk to the body shop and ask alot of questions.

Talk to local P-Car owners in your area via rennlist, pelican, car guys and find out what shops have worked on older P-Cars. I know in our area there are some of those types of shops. Most shops are used to plastic pieces and replace on Toyota's not vintage sports cars. Be comfortable and confident in the shop and don't let the insurance company dictate your decision.

Sorry your baby was hurt, especially since the paint was so original, but glad she was built strong to protect you. I've been to the paint guy a couple times, at least I found a great guy so it doesn't hurt so bad.

Have you already started the repair with a body shop? Make sure that it is the best place in town (where are you located?). Also prepare to be without the car for quite a bit of time.
Also- look into a diminished value insurance claim. I had to pursue it seperately when I got a light rear-end tap.
Good luck, and be glad that sheet metal is the only worry!

Thanks for everything. I am in Oklahoma looking after my mother and no one in this town has worked on a "porch". I am looking at Oklahoma City or Wichita Falls, TX, but I do not know a reputable shop in either of those locations. I am a bit disgusted with the whole situation. Wonder if there is a Porsche Club in OK. Thanks again. I'll let you know what and how things progress. the fender will be 2-5 weeks anyway.

You can also get some addresses on Ferrari, Rolls/Bentley, or vintage muscle-cars forums. A GOOD panel beater / painter can do marvels on any car, be it a Yugo or a Bugatti.
Take your time, and get feedback from customers.
(It's already a good sign you did not rush to the first shop just after it happened... )

Call the local Ferrari, rolls royce and Porsche dealers' service departments and ask them who they send their body work to and then take your car to one of those shops. There may be a delay, but it will be worth it.
For your own psychological well being, you should have some improvement done to the car while it's in the body shop getting repaired, so that it comes back BETTER than before the accident. If you're not ready to use this as an excuse for a wide body conversion, at least add a www.mashaw.com rs america wing, front splitters, rs front air ducts (in lieu of fog lights) and/or aero teardrop mirrors.
