Engine compartment won't open. NO EMERGENCY CABLE!
Well so my 1989 964 has been sitting for a while. I goto pull the engine latch on the inner door area. its locked solid. I pull the tail light... Nothing is present. Not really sure what the heck I should do at this point.
Front end opens no problem. The handle on this is just jammed so I have no idea if the cable works on not.
Thanks again for putting up with my 964

Your year of 964 does not have an emergency cable. You need to pull hard on that cable. Don't worry if the cable snaps because the latch is spring loaded and should release when there is no cable tension (i.e. snapped cable).
In reality, the lid still may not pop at first. In which case you'll need to press, pull and jiggle the lid side to side until it pops open. To help this try shooting some penetrating oil spray under the lid in the general area of the latch.
I had the exact same problem and the above sorted it, albeit that my lid had not been left shut as long as yours.

+1 do as above and get a friend to pull the cable hard while you jiggle push down and gently upwards left to right to free off. Some times getting a extra pair of hands helps in these situations. The lever by the door can feel stiff at times maybe try squirting some lube around the pull lever as well in case it is rusted shut.

If it breaks it breaks it is inevitable. Right now all you can do is pull really hard on the t shape plastic handle. On a plus note if handle breaks the lid might just pop up then all you need to do is buy another cable with handle. Make sure you have some one push & pulling on the lid while you are tugging at cable lever.

the trunk lid on my 964 C2 stuck a few years ago. I had read somewhere about using one or more coat hangers. IIRC, the drill was to slide them under the lid (through the gap below the bottom of the lid) in order to hook on to the latch, at which point one could tug on the latch via the coat hangers.
Not wanting to add any scratches, i used two pieces of some 12-2 wire which was coated with plastic. i bent the ends into a hook shape and, after some wriggling of the wires, was able to open the lid.
Rest assured that all is very well-lubed now!
