rear blower motor :job done
Only to tell you ,that it is now working ,as new
Cost ? :
not £500 for the whole assembly
not 130£ for the motor only
but only 3.20£ for one ball bearing
I only changed the front bearing ,which takes the brunt of the fan vibrations
The rear one was intact
It took me some time to do it ,though....
next time it will be much quicker

intermittent grinding noise ,becoming less and less intermittent !!
putting the end of an an iron bar on the blower casing and the other against my ear ,I could clearly hear the problem was coming from there nad was not something to do with cams /valves

size is 8x16x6 mm 8 mm is internal diameter
16 is outside diameter and 6 is " thickness "
i bought them from simplybearings.co.uk (no interest)
word of caution :expect to spend quite a bit of time to resolve the numerous issues you will be faced with :
-assembly is blocked by sharp chisel strikes :be careful not to damage them too much or you will struggle to re assemble
-as bearing is shorter than existing bushing , you'll need to use several washers to compensate
-it is likely that the shaft is slightly worn where the bushing used to be ;you do not want the inner race of the bearing to spin around the shaft ;carefully choosing your washers (pressure on the inner racing) will help
- the existing bushings are held in place by sort of a ring clamp ,which is supposed to work one way only ;you will need to bend the "fingers" of this clamp to be able to insert bushing and bearing
Plenty of small problems to solve ,but good fun !!

i'll take the motor out of the car and post pictures of the motor
I won't take the motor itself down for ..obvious resons
but it will be better than nothing

here are a few photos
you can clearly see:
- the washers to compensate for the difference in thickness between the old bushing and the new ball bearing
- the way the motor frame pasrts are assembled /l cold chisel strike ;I have carefully filed the locking bit (minimum pl4ease)
- the re assembled motor frame parts : cold chisel strike +a touch of jb weld on top
