Good find. I guess at around £2k you get ECU, software and MAF conversion it's not bad value either.

Who's going to be the first guinea pig then?

An interesting option indeed, especially since it features closed loop wide band lambda control it should be a doddle to switch to larger (and more modern) injectors...

...as it has been pointed out by Colin many times that the standard injectors cause a severe restriction in the way our engines operate.

Just to add, no personal experience with SC (only DTA and Emerald) but from what I hear the programming software is a bit less intuitive than others and requires a bit of a learning curve to master.

Alexjc4 and I are going to try the VEMS plug and play ECU (with 55 pin connector). Alex is trialing on a nonaspirated model while I will be installing to manage my TPC supercharger. Both ECU's are in route and I will start a thread to document my install and tune (will also remove distributor and go with 2 bosch coil packs.

That unit does look nice though and appears to be thought out since it adds intake parts to remove the AFM.

Guys,

This kit is great and has transformed my 964.
Throttle response is instantaneous and the car is so much more fun to drive.

Highly recommended. Please see before and after power curves.....

Regards ST

I see this is your first post. Can you tell us more about yourself, your car, and your decision to go with this new ECU for your car. Are you in any way affiliated with Specialist Components?

Does anyone have a before and after power curve for a SW chip on a stock engine, to compare with ST1972's curves?

A 3rd party ECU will give a better ability to tune the engine mapping for a modded engine, but it should be no better than a good chip for a stock engine. This goes for the WOT power curve - driveability may be improved with modern electronics...

Thanks for posting these dyno sheets, a good 11.5% increase in power....interesting to see a base number for a stock engine that is below 250Bhp for once.

As others have asked, can you share some more detail on your car i.e. Mileage, type of exhaust/cat and what type of dyno measurements were taken on (rolling road vs engine dyno)? Also be interested to know if all dashboard warning lights are still operational and functioning as the should (no permanent check engine lights burning in front of you).

Rgds

Hi Guys,

My car is a Stock 1990 C2 (US) Californian spec vehicle. It was my daily driver & has 190K miles on the clock!

Exhaust - Cat bypass and G pipe fitted, standard Porsche rear centre muffler.
The car was set up on the APT Performance 4 wheel rolling road in Lenwade Norfolk UK.

No warning lights. AC / HVAC and the cruise control function as required.
I know the guys well at Specialist Components we are all ex Lotus colleagues.

Hope this helps…..

Cheers ST

I've been trying to call them multiple times these past few days and regardless of time I get nothing but an engaged tone. That doesn't usually bode well.

Was the 'before' power curve done before or after the Cat Bypass and Gpipe mods?
