Specialist Components 964 kit - any real world experience?

As an amateur cannot give you detailed information on what Simon did but when the car was hooked up to the team viewer link I noticed the cursor moving at lightning speed as he made various adjustments. On the first road test the car backfired when changing up through the gears so another quick link up and further adjustments and all was good. I believe he adjusted the fuel cut off rate and adjusted the rpm at idle by first increasing the idle speed as the clutch is applied and then gently decreasing the rpm to about 950 .

That sounds positive Anthony. It's evidently not as plug and play as portrayed, but if the after sales service is there I'll still be happy.
Give us some feedback on gthe performance when you have given the car a good run.
BTW: Do you still have the instructions on wiring the WB O2 sensor into the Narrow Band plug?

I think the need for each car to be calibrated individially is a feature of the speed density model that most aftermarket systems use. The Mass airflow model, more common on oem systems, naturally adapts to the differences in volumetric efficiency between cars. Whereas s/d requires the idiosyncratic ve map to be calibrated for each engine.

This is one of the main reasons I opted for SC's product. I've found their communication always good. From pre-sales, post sales and tech advice/support. Cheaper and more functionally rich alternatives are available elsewhere however when buying something like an ECU, there is much more to be considered than price.

I spent the evening cleaning out my inlet manifold (oil pooled in the lower resonance chamber) and a thought suddenly come to me. Does the SC ECU operate the resonance flap solenoid?

Yes, it does.

I've simplified my life by selling the Cayman R and am totally focused on getting my C4 running as well as possible. Part of that is optimising the SC ECU. So many things to play with

My car is all back together and I'm now concentrating on the engine management. I wish I could say all is good, however while I have good power there is evidence of significant over fuelling (soot on start up, backfiring and fuel consumption).
I have just had the fuel pressure checked and all is good there. Coils are working correctly, idle is fine as is pick up. A garage did an AFR check and it seemed ok, but I'm not convinced.
Now I'm planning to refit the original ECU and give the SC system a rest. I just don't have the time or inclination right now to ring the UK etc, plus I've yet to connect my WB O2 sensor to give accurate readings so I doubt they can do much. I have however emailed SC to see if customer feedback over the lest year might give clues.
As I understand it, I can use the OE ECU with the newer injectors so this is just refit the barn door and OE ECU.

Fwiw you will run very rich with the uprated SC supplied injectors and the standard dme.

I sympathise with the time/inclination issue after all your other complications and as you say without a wbo2 there isnt much SC can do remotely. However there are some world class calibrators/mappers in NZ and they should make short work of getting the SC ecu dialed in for your car. Fwiw you will run very rich with the uprated SC supplied injectors and the standard dme.
That leaves two options:
1. Put the car back to standard and see if that solves the problem (proves it is the map) or
2. Fit my WB02 sensor and see what the fuelling is live.
Truth be told if I pull the kit now it's never going back in, which is defeatist. But equally I now remember why I never fitted the O2 sensor i.e. No specific instructions on connecting 5 wires into the standard loom with three wires and I can't source a plug for the loom either.
Time to sleep on this. Really all I want to do is drive, not spend another chunk of months sorting this.
