ooh that doesn't look very clever! Plenty of tread on the tyre so guess it must have been a fault rather than age!

Yes, 964 now gone to a good home and it will continue to be tracked. Cayman R for my trackdays now.

Steve,

Has the 964 come back down South?

And what colour R?

Yes mate. It's actually not far from you! Very nice fella who also owns a 996RS. JAZ will be looking after it from now on. I think he's going to have a cage put in and the bodywork tidied up at the same time. He's aiming to be out on track with it in the summer. I have offered to put him in touch with the L90 as he's keen to meet up with more petrolheads.

Here's my Cayman R so that you can see the colour.

Now that is lovely

I was really impressed when I borrowed one for a weekend, how are you enjoying it so far?

I've only ever seen one 6RS around here, and not for a while so he must keep a low profile

I'm delighted with it. It's one of those cars when you get in and drive it you think that it's just a little bit more sharper and focused than the standard car (S model). That comes mostly from the bucket seats and the slightly too firm suspension. And I mean that in a good way because you can feel the road, just like I could in the 964. The white, the decals and the spoiler means that it draws attention more than a standard S....I quite like that too. In many ways the R reminds of what Porsche did to the 964 when they made the RS. Maybe not as big a difference in the case of the R to the S but certainly in the same spirit.

My aim was to change the 964 for a Porsche that I could use more regularly and still be fun on a few trackdays. At the moment I would say that it's proving to be a worthy replacement.

Am I right in thinking you've got a PDK?

What's that like on street and track?

It looked like you lot were ganging up on that poor old 996!

Cheers buddy, yes the CR was always going to be PDK. Gives me the freedom to use it regularly and not worry about traffic. The paddles are lovely to just flick it up and down the box effortlessly. For going quick it works best in full auto mode....it becomes quite naughty when you floor it.

Looks more like C4 weather. Still better driving a car than a desk

Btw do you guys not generally wear a HANS device or Necksgen with harnesses at the track?

It was on Sunday....but it did help me to get a better understanding of the LSD I'd recently had fitted.....traction in the wet was much improved

Couldn't agree more

It's not mandatory for trackdays. Some do, most (inc. me) don't.

We did some research after one of our group lost brakes and left the circuit.

The weak safety point was harness and no head restraint as the body can't move forward with the head in a crash.

Perversely it's safer with seat belts than harness unless you have a Hans or similar device with the harness.

Harness and HANS device is best.

Have any of you done driver training at the Ring? 3 of us are heading to Europe and want to drive the Ring. Unfortunately the timing doesn't work with Spa

I've only ever done public days at the Ring in the past. Won't be going back until it's a properly organised track day as it's crazy on public days and (in my experience) shut more than it's open!

I would say Spa is better as you'd stand a chance of learning it in the time you have....the Ring less so in my honest opinion......Oh and the Ring is VERY expensive if you crash!

RSR may be the best people to speak to for what you're after, if you've not already.
