Default Would having hole in muffler cause rough idle

Sorry to ask so many questions, but my 964 has stalled on a few occassions, but I am pretty bugged out by the new old car because of all the mods. Today it bogged down in when I was cruising at a low speed in 4th gear. I had to shift it to second and it kind of stumbled and came back on while rolling at about 40 mph. I am just curious as to whether the different back pressue could cause problems in idling or the engine. Should I run it at all with the hole that is about 5 inchs by 3 or 4 inches. Right now it is just loud.

Dear Doug,
Please change the muffler. Yes this will cause all kinds of running problems as well as being potentially dangerous to your health.
Ciao,
