Convert C 4 box to C2
#168
I should have just put this here instead of another thread. About using a converted C4 trans in an actual C2.
For some reason, I cant copy paste the actual content...

I'm considering a C2 tip. A few people have converted C4 transmissions to RWD but mainly those have been for converting C4 cars to RWD, not for installation in a C2.
Generally, are there benefits to running a converted C4 trans vs sourcing a C2? Gear rations more desirable one way or the other? I believe that the C4 trans would still retain some kind of LSD in a C4, would that old true if installing in a C2?
Obviously, the C4 box is cheaper - so I'm just trying to figure out if there might be even more benefit (other than cost) to use a C4 box?
Thanks!
Jeff

Guy's I'd appreciate some advice please ... fitting my old C4 (now c2) box with conversion to a 3L SC road car. Considering the 3L with ITBs only puts out 200hp, would the C4 CVs and driveshafts work?
Also as there is no PDAS in the SC, will the gearbox work ok ie I guess it will like a non LSD (mech or hydro) version, right?

I've asked infos as well, here is the quick answer I received by email (prices blanked for confidentiality, just ask for a quote on your side).
I guess they will likely display the prices on their website soon.
The main question is about gear selection, so that you don't have to change the gear lever and mechanism, and I understand the refactoring of the C4 gearbox in this way would allow that.
To be confirmed, though.

Good day,
I hope you are all safe and well in the unusual times we find ourselves living in.
Thank you for your recent enquiry into the conversion of a Carrera 4 transmission to 2wd. To give some background, we have previously carried out Tiptronic and C4 to C2 conversions using G50 transmissions as these used to be quite readily available. As supply became harder and more and more costly, we started looking at this conversion in 2017 and after significant R&D, including scanning and 3D printed prototypes, we decided on casting our own end casing. We have modified various parts of the internals using state of the art technology and then assembled using all of the correct Porsche tooling to allow the full setup of the new diff as required. We built our first gearbox with the end casting and internal conversion and fitted it to a modified 964 with over 350BHP and the gearbox has been faultless. So we are now ready to offer this conversion. Parts are in stock and include;
- Gearbox end case
- LSD
- Bush set
- Cut and electron welding
- Indent for selector kit (early box only <1990)
- Gasket set
- Case blast and plating
- Labour
You will also need a pair of Carrera 2 driveshafts and diff flanges. Any shipping, delivery charges and/or additional parts required are not included.
When you supply us your transmission, we will strip, assess, clean (including bead blasting cases) and yellow and zinc finish as required.
The transmission will then be reassembled with all modified internals and a brand new plate LSD.
For this conversion we would need your transmission shipped to our workshops and we can then supply a parts list required so you can convert the rest of the car, and basic instructions on what else you will need to do.
Please understand this is a professional installation and whilst we would prefer to do the full conversion in-house we do understand in some cases it is not always practical to get a complete car to us, so we can offer to do just the gearbox conversion ONLY. We will only supply information to an experienced Porsche shop who have the necessary technical expertise, factory workshop manuals, and tooling to carry out the conversion.
This is not one for the home mechanic.
If you require any further information or to arrange shipping your transmission to us please contact us by return.
Stay Safe and Best Wishes,

Gents - are the flanges on the G64 box smaller than those on the G50 box (ie 100mm across vs 108mm)?
making new side shafts for the C4 to 2 convertion car - seems splines might also be different (C4 is 43 on flange part inside box)
