Default New guy here. Looking at a 1993 964 C4

Hi folks, quick intro. My name is JD and I live in Columbus, Ohio. Been a Porsche fan for a while though I've always owned BMWs. Have a modified E92 M3 currently and I'm considering buying a very good condition 964 C4 Targa from an old boss. It's been babied with 58k miles and all service records. No mods besides an extra set of BBS mesh wheels. It's being offered to me at $27k. I think I want to get it to drive during the summer months but essentially keep it as an investment as prices seem to continue going up. I don't think I would track it either.
Do any Porsche "lifers" see this as a particularly good or bad idea? All my research says jump on it, but it's a big "investment" and I want to make sure I'm not totally missing something. Any comments are appreciated. Hope to be joining the Porsche soon!

J.D.

If you don't buy it, send the info my way. That's a steal unless there are major problems with the car.

Thanks for the input. I'm thinking it's too good to pass up but ifI do I'll let you know.

Bought today. PPI revealed that it needs valve adjustment and new valve gasket, new brakes (not calipers) and distributor. About $3k in work to get it 100% healthy. Anyway, happy to join the club.

1993 was a recession year and I think the sales were way down. That's a very rare car. Congratulations

Thanks. I hadn't considered that, but it's a great point. I know production numbers that float around aren't 100% accurate but I think there were less than 1,400 Targa C4's brought to the US making it one of the least common configurations. Throw in the fairly uncommon color combination and I'd say you're right.

Amazon Green with ivory interior. Not sure the exact interior color name though.

Very rare combo, it would be a first for me. At least it's not an ugly combo!

Thank you. It gets a lot of compliments and it's a very cool paint, shifting from blue to green in the light.

Hey JD3, I bought your car in Nov of 2016. Put in the shop, got it back for a month, put it back in. Total of about 12 months to 'restore' to perfect. Oh, and it cost me $50k! The shop does only 'air cooled' and they were very fair considering we did the whole interior + carpet, engine rebuild, steering, suspension, fuel tank/lines, oil lines. I also restored the targa top, all weather seals.......

Oh, that's great. I still miss it but I'm so glad it got pampered as it was a great example and I simply couldnt afford to give it the treatment you have. If you have pics feel free to share, I'd love to see them! Enjoy in good health!
