C4 Leichtbau Alu Doors
So much C4 Leichtbau talk lately!
Im in the process of building my 964 C2. Aiming for RS N/GT specifications. And then some...
In talks with someone to buy a 964 RS/Cup aluminum hood but reading about the aluminum doors that came on the C4 Leichtbau has me itching for them. (Not sure if these Alu doors were also on the RS and Cup versions...)
I'm just not a huge fan of carbon or kevlar doors...and Im sure the aluminum doors offer enough weight savings along with the benefit of OEM factory fitment.
I know the aluminum hoods are no longer available from Porsche and I imagine neither are the aluminum doors. But do part numbers even exist for these doors? And any confirmed weight for these Alu doors?!
ANY insight would be much appreciated! Thanks!
Dan

The RS aluminum 993 hoods as well as non late washer jet versions can be found , they're
not that expensive between $1700 and $2k
The doors on the other hand if found are godawful expensive last pair I saw on offer were
$6k , they can be replicated simply by skinning a steel dr with readily available alum but even this is pretty pricey to accomplish , maybe $4k.
Late carbon fiber doors are available and standard window frames and controls fit right in
I have a set out of a 964 still available at around $2.5 k and damn light they are.
Take your pic....Bert

Hi Dan,
If carbon is an option for you, you can get most of what you'll need from here, you can always paint it like Singer do.

If it's alluminium you want everything is available here:

I'm fairly sure that I read that the 964 RS aluminium hoods are available from the factory once again.
The only set of alloy doors I've ever seen for sale were with Thomas Schmitz in Germany, though they no longer show on his website. He'd be a pretty good place to look for rare RS parts as would be Freisinger.
The doors on the 964 RS were the conventional 964 units, but with the heavy side impact bars removed, so they are a good deal lighter.

I can't offer any answers, however if you're using the car on the street I would consider retaining the steel doors for impact reasons.
If you do use AL doors, you should make sure they have a longitudinal steel bar in them.

Thanks for the input!
Didnt realize the steel RS doors didn't have the side impact bars. Wonder if the C4 lightweight had those impact bars...
For sure I thought of having the side impact bars but building a welded full rollcage figured it was probably not necessary.

Also...anyone have the part number for the aluminum 964 RS hood? (Not 993 due to the washer nozzles).
They seem to go for between 3k and 4k on ebay...might be worth it to check with Porsche parts see if they are in fact available again.
Let me know! Thx
