Default Foot Rest

In between my clutch and brake pedal (RHD) on the floor there is space to rest your foot when driving. I dont use this too often as it feels very strange having your foot between the pedals while the car is on the move. Not sure if this would be the same on a LHD car. Anybody else feel kind of reluctant to use the foot rest too?

Dear Dave,
We have a footrest you do not. The pedals for the RHD were re-designed for the 964 Turbo and can be retrofitted to your C2 to give you room for a foot rest.
The RHD is a converted LHD and the floor pans are assymetric. If you ever sit and drive a LHD 964 you will see what I mean. At LeMans I let somebody have a go with mine and they had only ever driven RHD 964s. They were amazed at the difference in the pedal layout. When I drive a RHD 964 I always feel I am being turned towards the passenger.
None of this you would know of course unless you had driven a LHD 964.
Ciao,
Adrian

I find the LHD layout (and that in later RHDs) makes it difficult to heel & toe. I'm so familiar with our 'strange' footrest that it's become integral to my 964 driving.

Hi John, interesting you note that it's hard to heel and toe with LHD (US version) 964's. I have a 65 911 and it's no problem, but I can't do it as hard as I try, with my C4!! I am glad I don't race my C4!!!

That's weird.

I have what can best be described as 6x2 inch lump of plastic for a footrest on my my91 RHD ROW 964.
But not much of a space between the pedals.........
Maybe mine has already been retrofitted?
However I like Adrian feel that the pedals are rather too far offset towards the passenger, and it took sometime to get used to.......

Dave, just one of the many advantages of LHD over RHD

I know this has been talked about before, but does anyone actually have one of the 'pedal add-ons' to raise the height of the throttle to make heel&toeing easier ?

Ok, so at risk of sounding a bit dumb, what is heel and toeing ?

Craigy,

Heel and toeing is the technique whereby you blip the throttle pedal as you down/up shift simultaneoulsy to having the clutch down and also braking. The idea behind it is that you'll 'prime' the engine and gearbox to be in sync thus making the shift easier and having them at the 'right' revs to fly away. As you may guess this is mainly used in racing.

Its deemed quite unecessary on modern cars but still fun to do! It kinda distinguishes the men from the boys...

I have a small vid of it if you want, dunno how to post it here though...

Craigy,

Heel & toeing is when you use the side of your right foot which is also on the brake pedal to blip the throttle at the same time while you are changing down the gears (double de clutching).
So really the heel of your foot doesn't have a great deal to do with it, it may, if you had really small feet but with most people they use the side of their foot to pivot between the brake and accelerator pedals.

Haven't had time to read this properly, but Greg, I think you can adjust the pedal height somewhat.

John, pretty sure the throttle isnt adjustable on a 964 - it was on previous models. Not sure about the brake though? might be able to lower that???
