Australians! Turbo 3.6 Value needed
I'm looking at importing my Turbo 3.6 into Australia at some point next year and having seen the necessary importation details i am wondering what the value of my car would be in Australia.
Seems i need to use either the purchase cost less compounded depreciation or a 'landed value' as the basis for GST(10% possibly waived in Vic.) and Duty/Luxury Tax.
The car is a 1993/4 Turbo 3.6 with approx 30,000/35,000 miles and would be headed for Melbourne.
Can anyone help with some valuation estimates figures for similar cars for sale or valued for insurance in Oz.

The best way to do it is to get it valued sight unseen by one of the Australian registered valuers. I had mine done (30K KM's excellent stock Ex HK) at about A$55K value. Cost of the valuation is about A$ 110. I also used this to get my C36 AMG Benz in and it is clearing customs as I write this.
Let me know if you want to use the guy I use. If you use one of these you should not have any problems with the customs valuation. Try not to use the market values as our overseas cars are seen by many to be far less desirable than a local delivery so there is normally a price drop for imported cars.

I try to keep an eye on prices in Aussie, being a neighbour and all
and found them to be around $110-130AU. but that's if you can find one.
Actually they are much the same here too.
Cheers

If it's of any help my 91 C2 Turbo sold for AU$95K, and at the same time there was a Black Bad Boy Turbo 3.6 is great nick for AU$130K. It sold but not sure what for. Honestly, I think the prices in Oz have come off just a little. So maybe bank on AU$120 - AU$130, perhaps a tiny bit more if it is absolutely original and low miles.

you cant expect an import to ever get the same value as an australian delivered car. if they sell for 110 in good condition then the same car as an import would be at least 25 off that.

Turbo 3.6 in good condition for AUD 85k, I'd hit that. Nothing like profiting from local prejudices. Are there any for sale in Aus, or is this a general thought?

just a general thought. we work on these cars for a living and my comment was made on the fact that it is extremely rare to find an import that is actually in good condition. i will say that most imports bought in the country are done so on the belief that the owner thinks he/she will make money on it. where as i guess the good ones that come in the owner have no intention to sell so we never see a good import.

With your taxes it would have to be a real dog to make importation cost effective, so I can see where the import = lesser car connection comes from.
Right now on trademe.co.nz there are two NZ new Turbo 3.6s and they reflect the divergence in condition over more than a decade of life. The way I see it is that you must buy on condition, but it sounds like I won't find another car in good condition for reasonable cash should I move across the ditch for work.

Wife has just purchased a 92 3.3 turbo in New Zealand (32,000kms) for just over NZ$90,000. Was love at first sight for her, there was no way she was going to leave the showroom without it. Took her in to look at 996's as a replacement for her boxster and came away with this beast so expect we paid a premium.

Maybe a little bit of a premium, but within the margin for error depending on the condition of the bits that wear and deteriorate. For the same money you could have had my Turbo 3.6, but it would have 60,000 km more wear and tear, which is a lot of year's use. Enjoy it in good health.
