Default LHD-RHD Conversion

I went and saw a very tidy UK 3.3 turbo last weekend. Everything checked out and I'm pretty keen. The only problem is the car is a LHD-RHD conversion!

Any ideas on how this should affect the asking price?

Pictures? I would treat it like a cat d - so perhaps 10-20% under a proper RHD car. Also bear in mind that it will be difficult to sell in any market, even more so now, so make sure you get a very good deal if you buy it now.

Who has done the work? Whoever, get is properly inspected - Peter Morgan springs to mind.

Good luck!

got to be less than either, it's not out of the box factory done. try comparisons with non widebody from factory versus aftermarket these are much lower.

Left hookers aren't particularly cheap either nowadays - although cheapest I saw on PH was £21.5K and that went pretty sharpish. I reckon you'd be in a strong bargaining position if you like the car.

Talat - how's your search going? Are you still looking for a 964 turbo or Celebration?

went back to the fellow with an offer (circa 21.5k) but he has said no...

Cant blame him really as in all other respects the car checks out well. the fella isn't in a hurry to sell and for him to bight the bullet to the tune of several grand is a big deal. I suppose I need to work out what the real impact of it being a conversion is. it's still a very nice ex LHD (just minus the disadvantage of beinga LHD!).......... think I need to check out a few more and give it a good thinking about.

BTW how much would it have cost to convert?

Still looking - although last month I was desperate to find something but now I'm not too fussed and I'll probably wait until after Christmas. I just missed out on the Sean Lockyear LHD 'Lightweight' Turbo and that really took the wind out of my sails as I think that would have been ideal. That being said I put an offer in on a RHD Turbo which was knocked back and so it's just a case of playing the waiting game until something suitable turns up. I'm leaning more towards a Turbo rather than a Celebration at the moment. There's a nice C2 widebody on mobile.de but I rang the guy up and he didn't speak any English.

With regards to the OP, for reference, I recently spoke to an Indie garage who did an inspection on a 964 Turbo. He said it was a straight car but needed a clutch - was up for £24K and sold for £20K.

Cheers,

Talat.

Be vary wary mate. A proper left to right conversion would cost an awful lot of money. Make sure that you get it inspected by someone who knows what they are looking at.

I seem to remember that Porsche & 911 World did an artical a fews years ago about on a 993 turbo RHD conversion... I can's see it being too much of a problem as long as it has been done correctly. Get it looked at if your not sure.

at the offer you made for a LHD, you could consider this, no affiliation, don't know car etc;

or this

or this if you have more budget

Did you know about the LHD-RHD conversion beforehand or is this something that came to light during an inspection etc. I'd be interested to know which car it is (PM if you wish) in case I've already viewed it or I'm about to view it.

FYI, I will be viewing the red 964 Turbo at Driven Image as soon as the weather improves oop North so I hope it's not that one.

That car has been for sale at that price for at least 6 months, probably more so hopefully there's room for negotiation if it checks out. Obviously check out the work that has been done and by whom. Do get rid of those wheels though...and put some 3.6 replicas on instead. You can get them for £895:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/18-Veloce-3-6-...1%7C240%3A1318,

Sell the turbo twists for c.£300 and re-use the tyres. Job done! I reckon if it was advertised with the 3.6 replica wheels it would have sold by now as it would look very nice indeed...

Good luck!

Hello mate,

I hear what you're saying - I can't fathom what posesses people to put later turbo wheels on these cars. Rest assured, they would be the first thing I'd launch if I where to buy the car

Talat,

Have you seeen the black LHD 3.3/3.6 replica on PH at £25k?. It looks rather nice - I remember seeing it for sale back in 2007, sounds like it's had a lot of work done on it since then.

"BLACK WITH BLACK LEATHER, FULLY ELECTRIC SEATS, GENUINE 18" SPEED LINE WHEELS, LOWERED SUSPENSION, 3.6 REAR BUMPER. JUST UNDERGONE ENGINE REBUILD, WITH NEW HEAT EXCHANGES & CLUTCH. FULL BRAKE OVERHAUL. IMMACULATE THROUGHOUT, GENUINE CAR. F.S.H."

Cheers,

Tim.
