Default My 91 c2 turbo "the documentary"

Hello all. Welcome my second P-car to the boards. I will guide you all through my updates, fixes and changes and will post them randomly in this thread to keep this section moving! Nothing sadder than getting home from work and clicking the 964 turbo section only to find there has been no new post. So here she is the week I got her 10/2011. Shes already changed a lot but let's start at the beginning. Its a 91 80k. I love comments and questions so feel free to post away at any time.

Hi A-P,

Awesome looking car. It looks very similar to your other car tho (nothing wrong with that, haha) - the one in your avatar, which looks VERY bad-***. What are your plans for this one ?

I'm less sold on the interior color combo, but that's just a detail.

Interesting configuration of the rear speakers, I haven't seen that done before, is it any good ?

Cool kid, btw !

First mod was to recover the steering wheel. The 12 o'clock portion was worn and showing some cracks in the leather. So off to http://www.dallassteeringwheel.com it went! I got it back and man did they do a great job. I got it covered in alcantra with a centering mark along with some added thumb-rest. While I was in there I also replaced the column stalk, found it to be bad when chasing down an odd stuck blinker issue. Sorry for the off color camera phone pics.

The wheels are a few post away. Up next is gauge face replacement , powder coated bezels and other interior bits.

Love the steering wheel !! Are you keeping the bezels the same color or switching them out ?

The bezels are getting swapped out. The tan color was unique but not to my liking. So I order some gauge faces just the way i want them, redline, color and markings. They come in a few months later and the yellow redline markings on the red tach face just doesn't look right, no worries a guy from the forum got back with me on a red face he was trying to sell a year earlier. (yeah im one of those people that PMs you years later if you never specify that you sold the item on your FS thread). It just so happened to be made by Gemballa. I start removing all the gauges from the dash which is super easy except for the Tach which requires you to remove the steering wheel surround to get it to actually fit. Then I get to the "like a can opener" PIA part of getting the bezels off of the gauges. A little flat head screwdriver and a ton of time later they are off! Now the tricky part of removing the needle from the shafts after marking their resting locations with a pencil. Everything was going smoothly until I got to the oil gauge. I pulled the shaft right out of the dang thing. It was far too hard to pull out but i figured it was stuck and needed a little persuasion. I was wrong and after a big bill from Hollywood Speedo I learned that there is a tool to remove them properly. while all this is being done I sent the tach off to Clewett to have them take care of the (In Your Face) gauge mod. Well everything is back and done, what do you guys think?
Before and after. The originals were silver, new are white/red/
