In 2015 I posted this --> https://rennlist.com/forums/944-turb...l#post12697860 <---
This battery is still in use. Until 2017 this small thing started my 944 and after having refurbished my 968, it starts my 968. It's unbelieveable, that this small battery has the power to start a 968 engine. By the way, 26 lbs saved, at least.

FWIW I purchased an Antigravity Lithium-Ion T6 size battery (perfect size for a 944 or 968) for my 1990 944 S2 when they were on sale at 15% discount (still $$$). The T6 comes in 40 or 60 AH capacity. I purchased the 40 AH with 1500 CA. It's very lightweight at 15.45#. It will be installed shortly along with a new 1.7 KW starter from Summit Racing.

@Zironocene The prior owner had the kill switch installed. The homemade bracket is tack welded in place. Not the prettiest job and appears to need a little TLC at this point. Sorry to take so long to respond.

Anyone know if the orange cover for the positive battery terminal, shown in the pictures above, is a Porsche part, does it have a part number?

That is a piece supplied with Interstate batteries (as well as other brands) for European cars. The ones installed at the factory (p/n 477 915 429A) were black, also have a "catch" that secures them onto the side of the battery and will pivot up for access - this orange one simply presses into place. If you want one just like the one pictured, go by an Interstate installer and beg for one. A lot of the technicians are either too lazy to install them and/or the cover sometimes interferes with the terminal.

Some do, some don't and that's not a stipulation in the PCA minimum requirements. While a region cannot allow less than the MRs, they can add to them and that's one of the things that some have added. We do not require it in the region I am Tech Director for, but one of the other regions I run with does require it and in fact, they insisted on adding a piece of duct tape to my cover even though it is the factory cover and snaps into place. Whatever suits them I suppose - just let me onto the track.

Big fan of batteries+ Last time I needed a battery for the 968, they weren’t in stock and with a quick internet search I found out there was an East Penn distributor 35 miles north of me. Same battery they make for Batteries+ for $20 less. Same warranty. Deka branded vs Duracell.

Hey Scott, I had an “opportunity” to try my micro starter for the first time the other day. (Damned dome light!) Worked flawlessly!

I bought an H6 recommend from batteries plus and it was too tall and bent the hood 1/4 of an inch up, hitting the support brace.

Thanks to the ****e shop that let my battery go flat and, rather than put it in a charge overnight, replaced it with a POS generic group 75 battery (that has already died) I’m in the market again. Here’s the proper GR 91 700cca battery that fits 968s.

Me too, if the shop wasn’t 500 miles away. I didn’t notice it until after I’d driven home. I was so pissed off by the whole affair, I took my car to the car wash, blasted the month worth of mud all over it, and headed home toot sweet.

A Duralast Gold T5-DLG from Autozone fit perfectly in my 94 968 Cab.

The crap battery the shop installed finally shot craps. Ordering a new one, I realized I'd made a miscalculation. I was comparing the cost of the downmarket battery @ Batteries+ with the Deka Gold (3yr Warr.) The cost in today's prices is $208 for the Duracell branded Deka high end Gold battery at B+ vs $148 for the Deka Gold branded battery at the Deka (EastPenn Manufacturing) distributor. It's the 1 year pro-rated battery that's $20 more at B+.

It's a good thing that shop is 400 miles. Otherwise I might be tempted to return the crappy battery through the front window, Discount Tire-style.
