Default 968 Battery

Been replacing my Porsche OEM battery about every 4 years and this one needs replaced again. Anyone have a battery they like that also fits? Tried an Interstate before and it was too tall. The right sized 'other battery' always has too low CCAs. Recommendations?

I have had very good luck with Duracell H6 battery (from Sams Club). They also make a very good AGM battery for not much more.

The common Interstate sold for our cars is a MT 47/H5 (650CCA - 54 AH). This battery is too tall although I have actually seen it fit into some 968s and not interfere with the hood. The proper and shorter Interstate for the 968 is the MT 91/T6 . This battery is not given a CCA rating in the Interstate catalog but is given a 60 AH (old school amp rating) which is stronger than the 54 of the 47/H5. The MTP 96R (590CCA) is also a fit.

As you stated the T6 is lower... you can also try what is called a Group 96r Battery also known as a T5 battery. H6 and T6 are exactly the same width and length... but the T batteries are always shorter by about 5/8th inch....

I've also had really good luck with the Bosch batteries. I have one in my 968 and have also had them in my 944's. Put one in my wife's SLK and they really seem to hold up.

I have a 968 and need to replace the battery. I cant seem to find a T6 battery with the new AGM technology. Is there one out there? If not can I use a different AGM battery in the 968 other than the T6 (OEM) size?

It's spring. I thought it would be a good time to revisit the battery size thread.

I have been using an Interstate H6 and it has bounced around a few Porsches that run sometimes and are being worked on, but with a date of 2011 and getting my cars running more consistently it was time to get some batteries. Costco is right down the street and usually has great prices on a limited selection of batteries. I'm not interested in the expense or needing to be careful about particular chargers, so I crossed out the lithiums and the AGM batteries. Those just aren't need by me right now.

The 968 got a Group 40R battery today. 590CCA seems to totally be enough to start the 968. My motor is 11.5:1 compression and it cranked fine. The 40R is the height of the T6 and otherwise very similar to the H6, albeit a little less powerful. The 40R was $79.99, which is a pretty nice price.

Here are some pictures. I'm wondering if any of you experts will present any downside to this battery. Seems to fit perfectly.

New 40R in front. Behind it is the old H6.

Side be side. 40R on the left and H6 on the right.

Fits nicely.

@Isaacsracing : A little off topic but it's been something I want to put on my car; any chance you can show how you mounted that battery disconnect? Did you use available mounting points, or did you tap and drill something for the bracket?

Cheers
