Default 968 exhaust cam interchangeability

Hi all,
First post on this forum. I am rebuilding my 968 engine and whilst installing exhaust cam, it hadn't seated correctly whilst I was tightening down the saddles and it snapped in two! I was completely shocked at how easy it broke. I would have thought that the aluminum saddle or bolt would have gone first. A few other mechanics have opined that it must have had an inherent defect from the factory.

Anyway I'm looking for another exhaust cam. 968 cams are crazy prices now. Can't find any cheap ones around, so this leads to my question if the exhaust cam on the 2.5 16v "S" will fit? I've heard that the S2 cams have a different number of teeth to the 968. But what about the "S"? Someone posted that the S cam gives a slight power hike on the 968. I'm not interested in power hike, just want to get my car back on the road as ecomonically as possible.

Try John at Vitesse Racing john@vitesseracing.com

He has a set of good cams for $ 550 plus shipping and PP fees

I was going to buy these a few months ago and found a set locally. This is a reasonable price and hard to find better than this in my opinion.

Did you use the cam hold down blocks?

To answer the original question NO you cannot use S or S2 cams in a 968.
They have a different amount of teeth on the chain sprocket and would interfere with the Variocam.

This was another candidate at around $500 for a pair of used cams. I talked to him via Ebay messaging which is challenging at best but he was willing to separate his cams from his head.
