Hi Jay, I see the Submarine Warfare pin and I'm guessing that you are a fellow Submariner. I served on 6 Pacific Fleet (Subpac - Hawaii) boats between the years of 1978 to 1995. How about you?
I was viewing this thread because I have a 1992 968 coupe Tiptronic and I'm not sure what the value is. I getting up in years and have no one in the family who is interested in classic cars to pass on to. If you have inputs I would love to hear your opinion.
Thanks Shipmate,

I keep waiting for the rest of the Porsche community (and others) to recognize the 968 for its exclusivity. With the US/CDN production (4,665) just slightly less than double the 928GTS (2,887) for the same production years, it would seem reasonable that the exclusivity would be valued. I've noted that the 928GTSs are commanding north of $50K with some pristine low mileage models over $100K. Of course, there is a very active 928 Community helping fuel the interest of those cars.
That said, as the age-old adage goes - there's a buyer for every price. May we all be fortunate to experience a rising tide in the prices that our cars command.

With the mileage and the mods, I would put this coupe at $20k. GLWS

If you’re going to tweak stuff, the cruise control cable should be under the beauty cover, not sitting on top of it (top of engine). Obviously you have to remove the strut brace to get the beauty cover off, but … just something else to add to the list :-)

Not a bubblehead though I tried to be. Ended up on the opposite side looking for you guys from the air. No jokes about how we couldn't find you if we dropped a sonobuoy right on top of you please.
I also have a 1992 but mines a 6spd. If you have your car registered with @jeff968 he can tell you what your car came equiped with. And if its got some of the desirable goodies or an interesting color, that'll help its value compared to less interesting cars like my silver one (though silver is the 6th most common color...not like today).
I'd like to think mine is worth low-mid 20s for a base 92 in driving condition with 113k miles.
Location also plays a role, especially this time of year. But the adage is its only worth what someone will pay for it.

Thanks for your input CDR,
Ha! Ha! I was an engineering "Nuke" and wasn't prone to telling "Nose Coner" jokes like the operations guys in the front of the boat. I was more concerned with you guys finding and having the opportunity to sink the "Bad Guys".
I'll check on getting registered with @jeff968 . I'm thinking my 968 is in the 18K - 22K range. It's in better than average shape and has some minor work to be done to get to "great shape".

Hey Senior
My apologies for missing this thread and your response until now.
I was in for only 6 (84-90) - MM1(SS) - fellow Nuke MM/ELT. 5 runs on the 633(G) before I left the underwater canoe club in '90.
Regarding value - hard to say.

Good to connect with a fellow Bubblehead who also has a passion for the 968. I agree that it is hard to say what the value is with so many variables. I'm just going to get her in the best condition I can and let the market determine the price.
Regards,
LRM

Great to hear from a fellow E-Div Submariner. I'm sure we have similar sea stories we could tell.
Man I like your 996!! Beautiful car. I have one just like it ----- a blue die cast metal model LOL!!! It was my dream car for a long time. I started with a 1985 944 in 1987 and moved to a 1989 944S when I was on active duty and stayed with the 944 models. My current Porsche is the 968 whose time has come to move on to someone who has the ability to keep her in good shape. The new owner is out there, I just have to make her available.
Thanks for your reply,
Lenn

It is a coupe with Tiptronic . Currently it is in the garage at my other house and I don't have many pictures now. I'm going to get it in the best condition I can and trust that the right buyer will show up. There are people who would prefer the Tiptronic based on their needs. I have limitations with my right arm, hand and knee and a lot of shifting a manual would not be enjoyable. My other 2 were manuals and I know they can be more exciting to drive aggressively.

Dayum...somehow I missed that it is a coupe.
That said, it that Slate Grey? Only 54 Coupes made in that color per Sir Jeff's website (https://968register.org/).

The red 968 was the thread starter. Jay Wellwood asked me to post some pictures of my gray Tip that I was attempting to get a market value. I do intend to sell the gray 968 after I prep it for sale. I didn't intend to hijack the thread LOL!

OK since you want a number, here is my $0.02...
Assuming everything works, moderate maintenance records, no cracks in the dash, >100K miles, $20,000.
Less than 100K miles, + $5grand. Less 50K miles + $10grand.
That would be my Bring a Trailer reserve anyway..
