997 shift knob question

I know plenty have tried the 996 shiftnob with poor results. Not enough meat on it to absorb vibrations. I have not tried it but my understand is that the system is cable operated so it does not deal with similar dampening issues.

The 996/997 use cables off of the shifter assembly that run back to the trans. Not a soild rod. The shift **** on a 996/997 doesn't seem like is as well built as the 968 shifter, only because it doesn't have to deal with moving that heavy shift shaft. So switching the two doesn't really work out that well.

i was able to adapt a 996 tip shifter to my 968 Tip but had to shorten the shaft about 1/2"
Now if I could figure out how to adapt paddle shifters to the car... the 968 tip just actuates SPST microswitches under the console - would be simple to wire it up.

Very nice option Ramdy_J. I like the carbon fiber look, especially if the inserts are in the center console and the dash. The paddle shifter option for the tip would definetly be a major improvement/selling point. Be sure to let us know if you experiment.
