Default Horn gremlin.

My horn is going off on it's own periodically. Started about 3 days ago. It does it when:

1. Car is running, wheel is straight, and I push the top of the wheel forward. Horn blows.

2. Cornering with wheel turned to left. Horn blows.

Lots of different reactions from people who don't know what they did or why they are getting the horn.

I have the stock big wheel with airbag.

Thanks for any suggestions troubleshooting.

Cheers!

Sounds like something is loose...probably has to do with the contact/ring/clockspring etc. How would you feel about taking your steering wheel off?

Pull the wheel and clean every contact and check every screw, also watch for cracks in the plastic.

Thanks guys. Just got back from a wheel swap in Baltimore. Thanks Chris!

I'll pull the wheel and check it out. What kind of tool do I need?

Thanks.

Scott - you'll need a torx bit (don't remember the size offhand) to remove the airbag from the wheel, and a 24 mm deep socket and extension to take the actual wheel off. Make sure to disconnect the battery for 1 hour before so you don't trigger the airbag light.

Any answer ever come of this? Mine seems to be experiencing the occasional beep when turning the wheel to the left. My temp solution was to pull the fuse & relay so wife & I could enjoy our drive to the beach!

It wound up being wear on the horn contact on the back of the wheel - the horn blows when the circuit is broken, and when pulling/pushing on the wheel the wear was enough to make the horn contact loose connection with the ring on the clockspring.
