Default 968 two colored wheel (pic)

Hi, guys!

I am considering buying a 1992 968 coupe and the thing that embarrasses me is that the steering wheel is in two colors - as trim (classic grey) and black.
Anywhere else in the Net all wheels are one-color - made a special search in Google.

What could it be, result of an airbag change? The wheel seems not to be resewed, and the owner cannot clarify.

Besides, the steering knuckles seem to be too close to the wheel, if compared to 944 non-airbag wheel.

Is this normal?

If the car has not been hit, Someone along the way changed the airbag to something he liked. It was an easy swap.

Arise___With your interior colour the OE steering wheel should be like this .To bad I had this one for sale about approx 4 days ago took it off & replace it with an SC steering wheel.

Looks like they changed the shifter and boot as well to black. It should also be classic gray. But it doesn't look bad. I don't think the steering wheel looks bad either.

The grey-with-black wheel matches the grey-with-black dash perfectly, I love it!

I'd call it a lucky find and enjoy it

I think that is the only color I would like with that scheme, but I think it looks great.

it's not a bad look, maybe a little busy - it wouldn't be hard to change. here's a link to a pelican thread which appears to have a couple of black airbags available over at paddock racing - http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsc...ing-150-a.html - next to the wing in the picture... Donn

I believe that car is located on Savannah, Ga. I have seen it up close and personal. If you need any help with questions just let me know.

looks like the steering wheel & shift boot were changed somewhere down the line. Most likely because they were worn out. PO kept the original airbag and just purchased the black wheel (sans the airbag) and black shift boot.

The shift boot & steering wheel in my car were both midnight blue (i have deviating interior: Marble Grey/Midnight Blue). I swaped both out. The steering wheel is a black 968 Tequipement Wheel (same as in the CS) and my boot is black suede.

I have a couple of black steering wheels and airbags from my son's '89 turbo and my '90 S2 that are in perfect condition... in case you want to change to a black airbag. I think shipping could be a hassle though since the airbag is classified as an explosive device.
