Default 968 chromed trim options?

Hey gang,
My brother has a '94 dark blue cab. His 968 numbering on the trunk is the same color as the rest of the car. I was hoping to get him a gift related to the car, and we always thought the numbers would look cool if they where chromed (and if it were possible to have the door handle area chromed which I'm guessing is impossible). Is there an aftermarket option to buy him the 968 numbers in chrome? I saw this on craigslist, so looking for something similar. I thought maybe it's an after market option or something. Hope you guys have some ideas, thanks!

I've never seen a chrome number set for sale. But you could probably take the numbers off the car, and see if a chrome plating place will plate them. I know there are places that will plate plastic, but I'm sure it depends on the place, and the type of plastic they're made of.

If not, you could either paint them silver, or have a machinist make some aluminum numbers in a similar "font".... might come out poorly though.

If the plastic is hopeless, you could cut them out of a sheet of aluminum on a CNC machine, bevel the edges a bit by hand, chrome plate them.

That's a really good idea! But I don't think I'd bother chroming the aluminum - I'd just polish it.

I think the polished aluminum would look better anyway.

Look for "986 logo silver". I believe they will do chrome for extra $$$.

I think bright numbers would be too flashy. I suggest some floormats or something like that instead, otherwise what if he does not like the look?

If you're going the Bumperplug route, order up a pair of the keyhole covers-with a X-Acto or straight razor trim the part that goes into the hole and use it to cover the trunk keyhole-makes a nice clean look.

^+1 on Eric at Bumperplugs.com

He can do the badge in any silver or chrome you want.

IMHO, chrome wouldn't look as nice as silver ... Polar, arctic, GT ... Pick a Porsche paint color and he has it.

Damian, I don't like that mod, no disrespect, just MHO.

Reason being, it looks, for lack of a better term, half-assed (no pun intended). I would either shave the entire hole away or just leave it; that plug just looks like you still have a key hole. Maybe I have to see it in person!

I totally forgot about Jag engineering - they have exactly what you need. Their stuff isn't bad either.

Each to our own taste, it's all good.

Isn't the Jageng stuff that... oh man I don't know how to describe it: soft squishy molded shiny stuff? I have Jageng lettering on my injector rail cover and it's like that. It's not hard material like the original rear numbers are.
