whats the deal, any 968 turbo rs motors with the 16 valve heads built, alive?
I know that the 944 boss turbos had the 16 valve heads, but I have never seen the 16 valve 3.0 968 trs motors? Were they too afraid to put this motor into a production / limited car, for it would produce more horsepower than the current 911 turbos of its day?

It was fast enough with 2 valves, with 4, it would have been too much for the aircooled 911.

Pretty sad that literature connected with such a high value auction has such a large error, porsche may have spent some time developing a 16valve turbo, but the the 968 turbo RS had an 8valve head.

There is some 968 16v turbo out there such as this one.

As you state, 968tcab, the only one known is that in the 949, aka the 1981 944 GTP LeMans car. It has a valve cover unique to that car. I believe they made two of those cars, and a few more engines, likely under 5 total.

Porsche did make a twin turbocharged 928 S4 (16V per bank) engine. However, it did not make its way into a land based vehicle, instead a boat. See the pictures in "riber.bentsen"s post: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/6511920-post8.html .

968TurboS is surely correct. Porsche likely didn't want to break the bubble of the 911 market. Don't get me wrong, the 911 (1998 and earlier) is a great car. The 924, 928 and 911 are all unique, great cars. But thats a topic for another discussion.

By the way, just read that the 917 LH did 245 mph at the helm of Vic Elford (go Vic! Yea, yea, yea!)

So if I ponied up $300 k to buy the said car, read the literature on the way home in my G5, get home and look at the motor with the sohc motor, would I call and ask whats up and want my money back, or better yet, the 16 valve trs motor? LoL

ie: I have been driving my cab with a 16 valve turbo motor for the last 8 years, So I know It can be done at the factory, so where is the original motor that they built for said trs?

The 968 turboS was built to homologate the rs race cars, the series they were intended for had a power ceiling which they could achieve easily with the 8V head. They had parts readily available to achieve it. With the number of cars available and the cost at the time (over double a 968CS) they could have afforded to stomp all over the 911

Heritage Motorcar Research in St. Petersburg FL built one for me. Update of my 968 I had owned since 1994. I have various posts on Rennlist. I wrote and published a two article sequence on my HMR 968 Turbo in "9 Magzine." Excellent magazine. The HMR 968 Turbo with 16V is crazy awsome. Love it.
