Pull the cam cover and check the check valve in the head make sure it didn't blow out . it will not let oil get to the lifters . should still show some pressure on the gauge though.

Since you are new to the car and with that much mileage, check your clutch hose for ballooning, also very common failure on the 968.

My plan is to put a 944 turbo drivetrain into it but I'd like to get the engine in good running shape for either another project or to offset some costs

The bad, it's a tip

The good, lots of great options.

Not only are those sport seats they are FULL leather sport seats meaning that the seat backs are leather as well. And they are heated!!! The seats alone are worth the price of admission. hi-fi sound with a CD changer, body colored side moldings, painted crest center caps, headlight washers.

1 of 114 polar silver coupes, 1 of 59 silver with a black interior

You probably already know this, but before running the engine any more, I'd make sure the gauge/lack of oil pressure is giving you the correct reading. If it truly isn't getting any pressure, you could do a lot of irreversible damage by running the engine. It's not that difficult to change out rod bearings, mains are a lot more difficult, but things like bearing caps for the cam are not replaceable if worn beyond the limits.

Yea I know, I fired it up to get it into my garage, but also to see what the issue was, bc the kid I bought it from didn't seem to know much, including what it was doing wrong. It seems like the oil just isn't getting to the head, other than that the engine actually sounds pretty healthy. He claimed he had it running for less than 10 seconds after it started and had it towed, I had it running less than 25 seconds without revving it, Pulled the valve cover and cam and everything look good, just not much oil up there.

I actually just noticed they were heated about an hour ago! I'm tempted to put them in my 951. Yeah I know it's tiptronic, not my cup of tea but certainly not passing it up for that price tho either. My original idea was to have a 3.0 turbo built and put a 951 drivetrain that I have laying around in it, including a 5 speed LSD and torque tube. I actually had a guy go pick the car up for me so I had no clue it even had sport seats or what the condition was till it got back to my place, pleasantly surprised I may say

No problem, those seats are incredible.

Sport seats are rare
Full leather sports seats are very very rare
Full leather heated sport seats are next to impossible.

I'll have to play with the database tomorrow to see how many they made but I'll bet it is only 2 or 3 out of 4,242.

worn, but not ripped is easily fixed. Take a look at colorplus.com. Black is a stock color for them and it will be looking new in no time.

Jeff, good to know my turbo has that option. Wonder how rare it is to have full leather interior with sports seats with heat.

I took a quick look, for the North American 968s it works out as follows:

Coupes with sport seats: 154
Coupes with sport seats and heat: 77
Coupes with sport seats, heat, and the seats are full leather: 4

Cabs with sport seats: 67
Cabs with sport seats and heat: 42
Cabs with sport seats, heat, and the seats are full leather: 1
