The engine and engine compartment on my 170K mile 968 was much, much cleaner. I don't know how somebody bids on a car with pictures that aren't worth a darn.

A testament to the desirability of a 1 of 10 speed yellow coupe.

To some degree, these are harder to find then the cabs.

+2 on the condition of the vehicle. For such low miles, it doesn't look as clean as it should.

just from the pictures....clutch master supply has an aftermarket clamp, fluid looks dark and the anti-vibration clamp is hanging. Is that dexcool on the coolant reservoir? the drivers rear tire looks like it could have some toe in thing going on. the MAF to throttle body boot doesn't seem to be square but that could be a shadow.

low miles have value if you are going to keep it that way but it is too much fun to drive them...tickets and all. i am new to the game compared to most of you but my car likes attention...continuously...it talks to me. it can be either, 'hey, watch this' or 'you shouldn't have done that'. lol

i DO like the color but i have a fetish for the Mercedes design mocha or espresso colors...you see a few overseas in ex communist block countries but less so in the US.

Who knows, maybe it is not the original engine, possible it broke a belt and had another 968 engine put in. I agree that for a car with that low miles, the engine bay looks pretty dirty. It looks like my bay with 150k on the clock.

I saw a thread on here somewhere where a guy bought 968 with a 944S2 engine in it... He didn't know that was the case.

BTW, what is the best way to get the valve cover and the beauty cover spruced up?

The seller has the history back to 1997 when it was sold used at a porsche dealer and had just 2,000 miles on it at that time. I think it just needs attention.
The seller has owned it for 4 months and picked it up from his bosses estate. His boss was the one who purchased it in 1997 but did not drive it a lot. (2K miles in 1997 to 27k miles in 2015). Pinion bearing was done.

Is it possible that this is a 'flip this car' project based on the conditions described coupled with the mileage?

It seems clear that the current owner knows 'something' is special about this car and is minimizing his effort to clean it up knowing that it will bring a respectable price based strictly on exclusivity?

Slight off topic, but a super nice 86 944 turbo, asking more than the 968 at 40k.

22k miles, so it seems the low mile cars are in a selling frenzy these days. Curious to see how it goes. But even a low mile 944 early base can't be getting that kind of bills?

This is an interesting car, however there do seem to be a few factors to look into before purchase. Is it the color that makes it so valuable? I have a 93 blue 968 for sale now that would run circles around this car in condition, maintenance , and care. This car has won every concours entered which is over 40 trophies, has always been owned by older adult, never AX, or DE. I started out asking 29,999. Am now down to 27,999 ??? Just wondering about value.

Ginger, yes, the desirable color and rarity based on that color is what makes this car so valuable. Red looks great on a 968 coupe but they made 547 of them. If this car was red I think it would be in the high teens. The other thing that is hurting your car is the tiptronic. Most buyers prefer the stick.
