Default Rattle under driver's seat

My mechanic cannot locate the source of a persistent buzzy rattle on releasing the clutch pedal which appears to originate in the area outside the car under the driver's seat. Obvious suspects for this- motor mounts, strut brace hitting the engine trim, loose under-engine pans, have been eliminated as suspects.

Anyone have ideas on this? Many thanks....

There are a couple of heat shields located above the torque tube. Its simple enough to check them for loose fasteners. They're also thin enough to get bent easily and come into contact with something else which might cause audible vibration.

Thanks! I know those shields, although I am not wrenching at all any longer. I hope my guy thought to check them.

lol.....traveling down that same path and ready for installing microphones in various places.

low speed rattle 10-35 mph ....various cadence and pitch. car on or off so not 100% engine speed sensitive. zero vibration in the steering wheel and driveline.

my hunt has involved changed the motor mounts, swapped and re-lubing the strut hats, swapped koni inserts, removed the wiper assembly, put new bearings in the alt, re-torqued the ac mounting bracket, changed tie rod assemblies, removed the sway bar, removed the headlight assemblies, put a balljoint kit in the 86 control arms, swapped caster blocks, swapped caster adjusters

my latest find was the upper rear balance shaft seal. it rattles like a toy drum playing monkey when I tap on it with my finger. the rtv is curing right now and i should have everything reassembled tonight to have a definitive answer...to be truthful, it is driving me slightly mad))

For me the noise comes most times I release the clutch pedal, more predictably when cold or going uphill. I think we're addressing different problems.

You've been through a lot!

It is a hobby.

See if the flex clutch line is hitting the brake booster.

Thanks- that should be easy to find.
