Mid to late August we got not 1, but 2 toad stranglers which revealed a drainage issue (thanks to poor drainage plan and chipmunks) that allowed water to accumulate in our crawl space.
After 2 months of deck removal, grading, installation of drainage system, installation of new deck and installation of a drain sump/pump under the house as a backup measure, things can move along again.

Equipped with the standard 3L engine and tiptronic from the factory - both of which are long gone.
So, since Wilma didn't come with a drive train, I have a few options on what to put back under her.
Just before the pandemic, I scored an AOS with LSD added.
I added some foam shims to help keep it secure in the customary 120 qt cooler,...errr....shipping container and sent it off to Kevin Gross (aka Catellus Engineering) for a check up.
For what its worth - this configuration comes in at about 120 lbs so it can ship via FedEx for a semi-reasonable rate and can be conveniently dropped off at the local FedEx place instead of going via freight. Rough cost was $215 shipped from Atlanta to 'backwoods' Massachusetts.

As I continue to accumulate parts for the engine build, and wait for the weather to warm up so that I can spray the car, I'm focusing on things I can do now.
Recall that I sent the transmission out for inspection/refurbishment the first part of November. After a few weeks in Massachusetts, Kevin Gross finished his inspection and repair/refurbishment of the transmission and sent it back to me.
Recall that that I bought this from another enthusiast...but who knows what it was subjected to? So it really made sense in my mind to have this unit gone through by a professional like Kevin. There were a number of items that needed to be addressed, including a few minor chipped gear sets and the burnt clutch disc. So basically, this unit is like brand new from the factory on the inside.
According to the information on Clark's Garage, this transmission was built on October 18, 1990. Although it is an AOS, it has an LSD added. So, essentially, it is the ever coveted AOR with the higher gear ratios. This will no doubt pair nicely with the engine I have in mind for Wilma.
One of the previous owners had sprayed the unit with black paint which was flaking off and really looked like crap. Yeah, it won't improve the performance, but to me - it has to be dealt with.
So I spent a few hours today enjoying my Covid using a screwdriver (also known as a scraper, a chisel, a prybar, or a punch according to my Navy training ) and a small detail pick to remove the bulk of the flaking paint.
It looks a little better now. Yeah, I know no one will see this, but if you're going to rebuild a car from the ground up - it makes sense in my mind to clean things up. One side done, I'll be enjoying my Covid tomorrow as I scrape the other side.
Jay, have you considered Zybar for the trans? We spoke with them at SEMA and will be using the product to coat a variety of parts and systems in our next build. If you would like heat dissipation, this may be an inexpensive way to improve looks and add thermal performance.
Took a minute to look that product up. At first blush, it looks interesting from a heat dissipation perspective with a hardness that exceeds ceramic. Nice find.
Probably won't need this on the transmission for Wilma...she won't see any track time. That said, it might be an interesting product for the headers, cross overpipe and the rest of the exhaust.
Have you hit 1,000 miles yet? Really interested to read about your tuning experience and how that motor performs!
Jay, I can't remember if it was the lifters or the cam you were looking for on craigslist, but if this is what you want, I can get these this week and ship them to you. I leave Chicago for good next week.
