Default Does your 981's interior rattles?

I initially wanted to post this as a poll but can't find the option.
My 981 GT4 is building more and more rattles as time goes by, and I'm wondering if that's curable or if I'm just wasting my time trying to fix them one by one. (Posting in the general forum to get a wider audience).

So amongst the following options, where does your 981 stand?
  • I'm happy, no rattles to trigger my OCDs, only road noise
  • Some rattles from the:
    • Back/hatch area
    • Behind the seats (safety belt hole area)
    • Seats themselves
    • Doors
    • Dash / front trim
  • Everything rattles I must take medication before driving!
On my side, I spent time trying to debug back rattles, made some improvements but it isn't perfect. My passenger seat rattles too (it stops when I fold it).
Took the car to the dealership(s) as well to try get it fixed under warranty, but to no avail - well actually funny story last time I tried the dealer lost my keys and had to reorder a new one (but that's a story for another day).

I've just got a new loud rattle under the dash somewhere (like a metallic part or some plastic tube). I am familiar taking the trim off the back of the car but have no idea how to get to the dash on 981 (only took the center console apart on my ex 987), and must say am a little nervous about trying it out.

I don’t have a 981, but my 12 year old 987 is completely rattle free. It’s remarkable really for a car that age. I suppose the harsher suspension of the GT4 could contribute to rattles a bit, but most rattles I’ve experienced in other cars have been excited by engine vibrations, which should be minimal in a flat 6.

It's not just you. 20" wheels and a fixed sport suspension will do that to you.

My two worst were my door and the gas tank pad squeak. I fixed the door with three strips of weatherstripping. I'm probably just going to have to live with the gas tank pad squeak even though it is known and there is a TSB for it. No dealerships in my state.

Here is a video showing how to remove the door if you are interested in installing the weatherstripping.

Attached is info about getting a dealership to fix the gas tank pad. You can find more information by searching TSB 1403.

I have a buzzing noise from the seatbelt area behind my head, and a rattle in the dash that disappears when I push on the area under the door lock button. I think both of these may stem from my aftermarket stereo installation however. 2016 Cayman.

My 2014 Cayman has a number of minor creaks and rattles around the dash, glove box, and door panels, but they're not so bad as to require a trip to the dealer. They're worse in the winter, especially when the car is first driven on a cold day, and tend to decrease as the HVAC heats the interior or if the car sits in the sun. I chalk it up to the ever increasing utilization of plastic parts and their tendency to expend and shrink with heat and cold.

OP - how many miles on your car, any track use ( hitting the curbing) ?

I have a 2016 CGTS stock with 17,500 miles and so far no squeaks or rattles at all.

My 981 GTS has a few rattles at ~9k miles. Some have been there for several thousand miles. I'm disappointed, but then I live in Michigan where the roads are hole patch on top of hole patch on top of hole patch. Couple that with getting airborne a couple hundred times a year at the race track and it's an inevitability that things are going to get stressed and start to rattle.

Some squeaking from the driver door card area, but no big deal. It did that even before I tracked it.

Closing on 11000mi, very light track usage.
My prior 987 with 72000mi had little to no rattles, I only had to replace the window switches in the driver's door once.

13 Boxster, when cold only, a rattle/plastic sound from behind me, the flap i think that moves when the roof goes up/down. Passenger seat belt will also "rattle" if you do not make sure the buckle is all the way up after someone sits there. Otherwise no other major noise, and I have 50k+.

No rattles here. But I did have a couple of very annoying rattles. I used some Honda Shin-Etsu silicone grease and lubed up the weatherstripping everywhere. All sides and in the nooks. Took care of the rattles. Give it a try. Nearly a free, not invasive method.

When I had the top of my 2014 Boxster down, the convertible flap behind the driver seat rattled like hell and drove me crazy. Thank God I have a pretty smart independent mechanic. He sprayed some WD40 in that area and the rattle was gone like magic!!! Other than that, the seat belt housing rattles a little bit but compared to the convertible flap it is nothing and hardly noticeable. When I have the top up and drive on bad roads, there are some rattles here and there but nothing crazy.
