981 Boxster/Cayman - One of Car And Drivers Greatest of ALL TIME
This from the July 2020 issue of Car & Driver. I haven't been able to find this on-line yet.. so minor quote/para-phrase.
In the section called "The Greatest of All Time" - Car & Driver's most important cars of the Car Driver era.
2013/2014 Porsche Boxter/Cayman
...Lighter and higher tech than before, with aggressive styling and the crackling wail of a high-revving naturally aspirated flat-six, the third-gen Boxster
and second-gen Cayman were simply two of the most finely honed driving machines ever created.
but there's more.. go get the mag for all the rest.
Post 'em up with pride!

Having enjoyed and owned sports cars since I was in my teens (many decades have past since then)I can attest to the greatness of cayman/Boxster. I traded in my Ferrari 360 manual Spyder. I got cash and brand new 981 Cayman GTS. Great deal. What a machine. As have said before, if I could only keep one sports car, it would be a tough choice - the GTS was brilliant. I missed the top down driving so much I traded it back in for a 718 Spyder. But I do appreciate with Steve Sutcliffe’s video review of Cayman GTS when he says - “if I could just one car for the rest of my life, this might be it”. The Cayman/Boxster are brilliant drivers cars. 👍

I like them so much I've got two 981 GTS... They serve very different purposes however.

The GT4 is being replaced by a GT3 though. The GTS is so, so, so good that I found the GT4 didn't differentiate itself enough from the GTS. And for road driving I prefer the GTS by far (top up or top down).
Spent last weekend at Barber in the GT3. Now *that* is a car that differentiates itself from the GTS. I really feel like I have the best of both worlds now. C&D seems to agree.

Couldn't agree more, my 981 S w/ X73 is such a great combo for both street and track. Not sure there's anything else you could get that gives you this scapel-like Porsche sports car experience for the money.

I feel you. I have a manual X73 981 Boxster GTS and 981 GT4.

I, too, lust after the GT3 drivetrain. But for a pure track/race car my Cayman is pretty hard to beat with the PDK and 450 horsepower. Turning a GT3 into a similar track-focused state would probably be missing the point of it somewhat.
