Gonna need some proof of that one. Anyone who bought a brand new Boxster and opted for model designation deletion could have bought a used 911 if that's what they wanted or put that money towards a 911 downpayment. Anyone who bought the GTS variant could have easily bought a 911 if that's what they wanted. Seems more like 911 owners trying to justify their purchase...

Agreed!

In my current search for a 981, I’ve driven several 911 models as my budget allows me to purchase either a 911 or 981. But the most important thing for me is “bang for my buck” (also really wanted a convertible this time). In this regard, the Boxster wins, hands down. I found its lighter, more nimble driving platform much more to my liking than the 911 and MUCH prefer the look of the Boxster with the top down than the 911.

Even Porsche has slowly started to figure out that the Cayman/Boxster variant isnt really stealing from the 911 as there seems to be two different camps, and either you like the rear engine and bigger 911 or the mid engine lighter Cayman design for various reasons. Its quite easy to get the Cayman/Boxster prices into the 911 territory now, so I dont buy the "had to buy the other because I couldn't afford the 911" theory as I think most looking at these vehicles are capable either way or else they wouldn't be considering Porsche at all.

Porsche seems to understand this now as well and seems to be allowing the gap to get closer and closer between the two different platforms: https://flatsixes.com/cars/porsche-c...a-992-carrera/

I thought it was pretty obvious I was being a bit facetious on the last one.

But there is some truth to folks de-badging and taking a bit of pleasure in folks thinking their car is something more upscale/exotic.

Prior to the 992 the *only* 911 convertible I could handle was the Turbo S. There is something different about the 992 though. While I still think the coupe if much better looking I think the convertible looks much better now than ever before.

No either to it for me. I love both. Which one I choose to drive depends on my mood, the weather, and the road, track, or autocross course.

That being said, I'd sell my GT cars before my 981 Boxster GTS. Were it not for the 718 Boxster GTS 4.0 no one would ever be able to pry my Boxster away from me. Even now I won't swap out my 981 GTS for a 718 GTS 4.0 until Porsche says they will no longer make them.

Eh, I'm just not a fan of badges or stickers. Just more stuff to clean around, fade or peel off that provides no tangible benefit to me. Everyone has different preferences, no real right or wrong answer.

Might depend where you are, but in general, nah. Largely it's only Porsche people that know the difference and they won't be fooled, so no pleasure. The rest barely know the difference one way or another, base, S, GTS, whatever. so again, no pleasure. I own a 981 Cayman base. I debadged the model for a cleaner look, but that was 2 years after buying it CPO 3 yrs old. The pleasure I had was most everyone of my friends thought I was Mr. Moneybags.......and then I delivered the punchline that it cost me less than their shiny, glittery bass boats.

I was at a stoplight a woman was screaming at me saying, I have taken pictures of your car but it does not say what kind of car it is anywhere, I like that.

If you take off the Porsche badge people will think you have a Ferrari. Of if you take it off your 944, people will think you have a Mazda. It all depends on the people you want to meet.

I ordered a 991.1 GT3 and selected 'model delete' as was done with my 997.2 GT3. That allowed me to put a larger Guards Red GT3 script on a black car. That is something Porsche Exclusive can't do, but Bumper Plugs can! My brother got a model delete Cayenne and it looks very nice and clean.

Hello, I have a preserie 987.2 base, meaning it's the 17th Boxster ever built for this serie (#00017), and it was in the Porsche assets from 2008 to 2012 (Yes, 2008, one year before the official launch).
And guess what, no model name on the trunck !

I live in France, and here, and as mentioned above it is true also for Germany, the model name is often removed at order.

For Porsche, I think the only exception is the 911 Turbo.

Whoa cool. How did you end up with it?

I ordered mine with the model delete as well, just looks cleaner.

A matter of luck actually. The model was nice, and I was told it was a preserie when I get there to check on it.
As far as I remember, the first 60 units of a model are preserie for Porsche, it's easy to tell looking at the VIN.
And some option codes are specific, like :
I709 Production and market dpt order
I734 Preserie engine
I735 Preserie transmission
I765 Internal production code
I775 Internal production code

I did the same when I finally drove mine into work and the guy with the $80,000 truck was giving me a hard time Proud Cayman S owner, and I can afford the GT car, which is coming in the near future. This is an interesting topic, I was a domestic guy and all I knew about Porsche was 911 and the iconic shape, so when I saw my first Cayman (which had badges deleted) I assumed it was a higher special model as I thought it was sleeker and better looking then a 911.
