Default Where are the Gen 2's for sale????

After being burned big time buying a Gen 1 S that turned out to have bore scoring I am starting to look for a gen 2 base. 2009-2012. I simply do not see them for sale. Any ideas etc?

About a year ago I started looking for a 987.2 and found mine on AutoTrader. With regular looking on CarMax (gen 2s have just about disappeared from there lately), Bring a Trailer, PCarMarket, Carvanna, etc, you're right that there are just fewer available. BAT tends to have a long wait list and will only have 1 Cayman at a time it seems, not many show up on PCAR but they do pop up. It's also worth looking at the PCA Classifieds, you have to be a member or at least join the category where you have access to the classifieds. Be patient, keep looking, and get the car you want.

I don't have production numbers, second gen cars are hard to find, but you know that; there were no 2013s (CS) as they were retooling for the 2014 MY. I had been looking for over a year before I found a 2012 CS Black Edition (Cars.com) and I jumped on it and paid the ask. It is frustrating, but time marches on and they will come up. I also was watching the auction sites. BAT has competition now so you have to search on that front as well. They rarely have any gen 2 Caymans.

Searching cargurus.com nationwide shows seven 987.2 Type R, seven 987.2 Type S, and three 987.2 Base.

also worth noting, and you probably already know this, but most forums and websites like BAT and PCAR let you enter the car you're looking for and then you get notified when they come up for auction.

I was looking for a few months at most of the major sites and before one randomly showed up on Craigslist around 60 miles from me. A 987.2 6speed that was priced amazingly well.

Since the amount sold was so low there are less people out there to buy from. I’d set up notifications as previously mentioned so you can stay on top of it.

I found the production numbers a while back. All you need is to remember what was happening in 09. Buying a Porsche was on the bottom of most people's to do list during 09,10, and 11. The great recession was worldwide.

Great to have these numbers if official. I stand corrected about 2013, but I have to say, I have never seen a 2013 FS and my 2012 Black Edition is 254/500. Doesn't mean they actually produced 500, but I wonder what was going on in 2012?

Probably a dumb question, but does bore scoring only affect cayman s. I always thought it affected both variants

Someone is selling a Cayman R over on Planet-9.

No affiliation and I don’t know anything about the seller or this car. But the price is quite amazing!

That's about the way I bought my Black Edition. I usually hem and haw over car purchases. I bought this one back in 2014 in 3 hours at first sight more or less.

Steve, the retooling that you mentioned was happening in 2012 and perhaps early 2013 so the 2013 Caymans on Robert’s list were cars of 2014 model year sold on 2013 so you’re actually right.
