Correct, we have no moisture shield. Apparently the 992s either added one or upgraded the moisture seal. Was wondering if there was wet weather associated with other peoples failures.

That's really interesting. I'd love to see a picture of how the 992 mounts are protected. For the number of these $1200x2 parts with reported failures under 50k miles, it would seem something is up. I'll wrap them in plastic bags if I have to

Overview WLD3 workshop campaign – Replacing engine mounts and retrofitting cover caps Due to insufficient sealing It is possible that moisture may penetrate into the adaptive engine mounts (PADM), e.g. due to splash water when driving on wet roads. This can result in an electrical fault in the control system of the adaptive engine mounts. If this happens, the engine mount will act like a conventional mount and a corresponding warning message will be displayed in the instrument cluster.

Is that at all physically similar to a 981 mount? Would that cap work for us?

Those updated PADM 911 mounts have changed from the previous versions, so no the caps wouldn't work on our cars. The previous 911 engine mounts were very similar the 981 PADM mounts up until the change. This is what the mounts on the 981 look like, and the part they show the cap on is butted up against the floor pan on our cars and not accessible without removal, whereas the top of the mounts on the 911 are right under the rear bumper and easily accessible once the bumper is removed
